Hello all,

It has been a pleasure for me to be a part of a very international board as animesuki. As a Japanese member, I thank you all for the growing popularity of anime and otaku culture abroad, and the quickness of how you all began to absorb Japanese otaku culture, lexicons, and terminologies at a fast pace.

I still remember back when I joined, the term moe~ was unheard of, the terminology of hentai-games were used over ero-games, and how little information there was about light novels. But within five years, the word "moe~" has taken over everyone across the world, ero-games are being looked at from a new spectrum, a doujin game has finally started being translated before the anime airs (Umineko), and interests in light novels has started to boom.

But we must not stop here.

I come here so that as anime fans as a global team, can unite to spread as much information as possible of what anime conventions and circles exists globally.

So far, I have had the priviledge of visiting several anime conventions in the US - but mainly restricted to the United States as it has the most information and by my own personal understanding of English. It was a huge inspiration and eye-opener for myself to actually see how international anime fandom has become.

But what about the rest? I have seen youtube and nicovideo of Haruhi-fans spanning from Bolivia to the Czech Republic, from Finland to Venezuela, and from Australia to South Africa. Surely there must be a social gathering of anime fans in each country across the world...but so little information exists in English or in Japanese.

So I ask the international members of this fabulous board to help me...and help the lots of Japanese anime fans who wishes to go to such anime conventions across the world...to list and fill in as much information as possible on this wikipedia page:

While lots of anime cons are listed for the US, very little else is known about other countries. For example, Finland. It does not even list Tsukicon, and even if it did, the webpage is in Finn which is very difficult for people who wish to come overseas. I would definitely've booked a Tokyo-Helsinki flight just to visit a Finn anime convention, if only I had more information in a language that I could understand.

Wikipedia is a powerful site. Let's utilize it to broaden our international anime fandom to a global scale!

Amecon
AmeCon is the largest UK convention dedicated to the celebration of Japanese animation, comics and culture.
- Next official one's in 2010.

Ayacon
One of the UK's oldest and largest anime conventions is back for 2009! Running once again at the fantastic Warwick University venue and featuring a great line up and events and guests.
- Between Ayacon and Amecon, they're usually run one of the other every 2 years, so 2009 = Ayacon, 2010 = Amecon

Minamicon
Minami Con 15, the longest running anime convention in the UK.
- Small group, but indeed the oldest con we have here

Next is in March 2009, run annually, sold out within a day (typically)

Fuyucon
The greatest UK winter con returns! FuyuCon 2009 will be running at the Park Inn – Northampton
- The dates for FuyuCon are 23rd to 25th October 2009

Kitacon
Kitacon is a brand new UK anime convention that will take place in Northampton.
The convention will be held over the last weekend of the 2009 Easter holidays, April 17th to the 19th at the Park Inn Hotel Northampton.

Tomo-dachi (Ireland)
Starting in the summer of 2005, Tomo-Dachi was the first anime convention to run on the island of Ireland

In the last 4 years, I've been to every single Amecon and 1 Minimicon and a few London Expos (where cosplayers are now taking over the event) >.>
I do have pics and news from Amecon over the years, I may upload to the albums we have in our profiles, but it's been interesting to see the way the UK anime scene has been growing this decade.

The max number for an anime con is 1500 and that was this august at Amecon, so as you can see we're still relatively small and still growing. ^^

Japantag, Dusseldorf

In 2009: June 13, 2009.

It wasn't always like this, nor was it meant to be like this. But in recent years, it seems to be like a huge otaku festival. Held in either late May or early June every year, it's something not to be missed for a day of wholesome fun.

I have never posted on a forum so I am not sure exactly how this works, however I am getting a little desperate.

I am taking my cousin on a trip to Japan for his high school graduation present, and he wants to go to an anime convention while we are there. However I can not find one in the time restraints that I have. It has to be between late June and mid August while he is not in school.

I was wondering if anyone could help me find something, we are going to Tokyo, but I am willing to travel to another city to attend. Please if anyone knows of anything within those dates I would appreciate it alot. The sooner the better seeing as I have to get tickets and book the hotel rooms.

This is a very interesting thread.

For what concerns Italy as far as i know there is not an "anime convention" strictly speaking. However there is a huge convention that takes place every year in the city of Lucca.

It was originally named "Lucca Comics" and was meant to be a convention about comics in general. It has a very long history so in the beginning there were no manga at all represented there. Things started to change around 1996 and now "manga and anime" are the main course of this convention. Every manga and anime fan of the whole country recognizes it as the most important meeting.

Since then the success was so huge that the convention now takes place inside the whole city. Also thanx to the manga and anime culture cosplay became a dominant phenomenon. The last Lucca Comics had around 1000 cosplayers participating at the cosplay contest. The vast majority of them cosplays anime, manga and japanese games characters.

Malaysian's here!

There's not much cons going on here but the number of cons being held here is steadily increasing by the past years.Some of the annual events:

Comicfiesta http://forums.comicfiesta.org/ :The biggest event of the year.Usually being held on the end of the year (around December) .The venue gets better each year (and bigger).

ACGC (Anime,Comic and Games Convention) http://www.acgc.com.my/ -This one is held on the beginning of the year. Nearest date is on 21-22 March.More emphasis on cosplay and online game promotions.

There's actually some more cons,but they are pretty random and not as big the two mentioned above.The comic fiesta site have a pretty detailed list on the events that are going to be held in Malaysia.

PS: Just don't expect any adult doujins to be sold there,since it's an offense.IMO,this killed half the fun.*sigh~

Well there's Polymanga in Switzerland (French-speaking Switzerland that is) every April that no one seems to have mentioned.

And what's with the Wiki article ? Some of the conventions mentioned here aren't on the page, so I suppose they were taken down because there wasn't any main article. Do you want us to write the articles for the cons we list ? If so I'll gladly do so for this one.
And, whilst I'm at it, it's quite surprising that the page isn't available in any languages other that English, French or Portuguese, the latter two of which aren't particularly complete (the french presented it in a table which, albeit ugly, is quite practical).
