Now don't get me wrong the series isn't bad, but if he stayed dead it would have been much better IMO. I would have rate this series as a masterpiece.
Aside fact that Eren's survival was reasonably explained, if all you can take away from the revelation of it is "Omg he didn't die!" then you're missing the point on why it happened and what it means for the Titans themselves. Not to mention if Eren had died pretty much the entire cast would have too, the Titans would broken through Trost eventually and the scene between Eren and his father would have been absolute pointless. Basically you would be sacrificing tons plot development for nothing with the story ending in one arc. Last time I checked GoT didn't kill people for the sake of it.

Besides the story has made it clear how easily most people can die in this show.

lol. if you want death read Terraform where every character ever pop up dies in the most insignificant way but to be honest if Eren die then this show would have ended as they would have been overrun by giant.

whats with the pacing of the last three eps? suddenly no fighting and only talks.

not a fan of the "artificially align the climax scene to the end of the season" act.

This only just diminishes the emotional feedback when that scene arrives

Wound. Battle of Trost - Part 8

The anime itself has never let me down since the first episode. With each passing episode the despair bar rises, the death toll bar, the insanity bar, and after things go from bad to worse, then they head from worse to nightmarish.

The dilemma is to let Eren die or not?
- Aside from losing a protagonist, mankind could lose something even more important: knowledge against the Titans.

It isn't fear and insanity that is driving humanity towards its destruction by the Titans. Fear and insanity are natural outcomes and to be expected from people in living such crapsack world of a hell; it is of fools to act brave and fearless, since 100% chances are that you'll get yourself killed in less than eight seconds in the battlefield.

I do agree that Attack on Titan features quite an ensemble of characters from which to choose to continue leading the story towards a certain direction. The big dilemma is mankind (not mutated, not genetically enhanced, not magically improved, not grafted with demonic tissue or blood within their bodies), your average humans, against a race of giant species that kill them for lust and pleasure and NOT even for nutrition or survival.

The very cold and rational me would concede that after enduring so many sacrifices to stop things midway and leaving the possible link to the Titan's mystery would be an absolute waste and loss for mankind; humans need to understand with what are dealing against them, and they cannot afford to live forever in the fear of ignorance and stagnation if their own survival is at risk.

However, the soft-hearted me would definitely lash against that top brass for letting that many soldiers to die without no positive outcome ever been achieved and instead insisting at keeping on with the mission until it is accomplished.

To be honest, I cannot be biased against the two conflicting sides, because both views have their weight. I do tend to be inclined that the priority to secure Eren first in order to begin gaining more knowledge about the Titans. The problem is that Hell is going unabated and giving no signs of remission; the Titans are at their climax giving no chance and break for humans.

A speck of hope could have been triggered, however, when Armin spoke to Eren into the latter's subconscious that what they've been struggling for was to get out from the walls and destroy the Titans for the chance to see and explore themselves the outside world.
If Eren suddenly reacted with those words, then they might be able to turn of tide for the battle of Trost in the next episode.
