Air's real world setting - Kami (Kasumi) Japan

I remember a while ago, i was looking at a Japanese site that had the real life locations that were used in the Air.. and then the anime version nexted to it - and i believe the link was somewhere in the Air section.

I was just wondering if anyone would know of that link? ^^;

Perhaps some of the following are what you are thinking of. Taken from the thread Bunch of archived threads cached by Google by justsomeguy. The cached links no longer seem to work but at least some of the content was recovered.

Very cool, from this http://htc.moon.st/ota/05041601.html someone posted, I went and looked up the location and found it! Story may be fictional but having a real setting I think kinda ties it into our world a bit more

Kasumi (香住町; -cho) was a town located in Kinosaki District, Hyogo, Japan. On April 1, 2005 the town merged with two towns from Mikata District forming the town of Kami and no longer exists as an independent municipality. The portion of Kami that was Kasumi is now informally known as Kasumi-ku.

Population 13,500

that is pretty sweet..

kinda not surprised though... mostly any place you see in an anime reflects SOME place SOMEWHERE. or where did the creator get the idea?

Thanks for the info and images!

In addition to the original page, AIR: Hyogo prefecture Kami Cho & the Kyoto prefecture Maizuru city compilation (http://htc.moon.st/ota/05041601.html) (English (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...5041601.html)), also check out AIR: Japanese ode Yamagata Mihama Cho compilation (http://htc.moon.st/ota/05022701.html) (English (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...5022701.html)).

This one is a little sad:

http://htc.moon.st/p/2005022709.jpg

The track is broken....

http://htc.moon.st/p/2005022708.jpg

The whole Hi-Tech Carrot (http://htc.moon.st/) site (English (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...c.moon.st%2f)), at least the travelogue section, The Japanese Highway (http://htc.moon.st/ota/index.html) (English (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...%2findex.html)) is pretty interesting. Click through this section to see some intriguing distant scenery. It shows other real world settings, some for other anime as well.

Mentioned in another thread also was this page: The 1000th summer (http://tarax.flop.jp/alive/log/000660.html) (English (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...F000660.html)).

I also came across a similar page for Kanon: Kanon in Moriguchi Osaka (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/chibiusa/rini/kanon/) (English (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...i%2Fkanon%2F)).

It's cool to find that these magical places exist.

The "weird juice?"

I've seen a "real life" image of the peach juice, or maybe it was a tin box that looked like the aforementioned beverage. If I can find it again, I'll post it here. Or someone else will.

If I'm looking for Air juice I must be a freeplanetling.

Oh, and Neaco, thanks for the updated images. Great stuff. Post more if you find more....

Sure glad you like the photos Richard 23, I posted all the photo links I know of thus far.

One wonders if that drink is actually safe to drink, 500% of anything sounds scary; no wonder Yukito spit it out. If he died of peach overdose then there would be no anime lol

Thanks should go to justsomeguy who recovered some of content of those threads

But that's a good point (and a good idea) about making a new thread to discuss the topic again. I must admit I had forgotten about the recovery thread so it may be an idea to create some of the other threads that had been partially recovered.

I was wondering about renaming this thread to Air's real world setting - Kami (Kasumi) Japan (back to the original name).

I'm always impressed when real life settings are used, and it's even nicer when you can compare the two (real life and anime) to see what inspired the artwork. Thanks to everyone for finding the links.

Renaming the thread sounds like a good idea, and i could see it bringing people back do to this topic.

Yeah, over the past few days i've been looking up on Anime thats used real locations.. & in my opinion Air's one of the best been used.

If only I could to Japan (or anywhere for that matter) but sadly I'm stuck here.

Actually, we have some scenery similar to that of this place, except for the whole mountain in the background, but the beaches and all are close (not for to much longer, durn condos).

Yep this was my thread. I also found it pretty cool that the place existed in real life. 'm sure it's a lovely little seaside town^^

My original last post in the thread wasn't saved by google but I think an Animesuki member that said he LIVES there posted. I asked him if the people that live there know about AIR being set there but he didn't reply back.

If I ever go there someday and see a crow I will....

omg that just makes the anime get even better. It amazes me how the artist were inspired by this scenery and put it into the anime almost the exact same way they did. I wish I could visit there just too see it in person. I can almost see the cahracters being there.

Now that you've reminded me, I think I'll put a mention of this into the AIR wikipedia article for all to see^^ I've made quite a couple additions to it myself since I like AIR so much.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIR_%28game%29

I only edit wikipedia pages of things I like, and when I do I can spend upwards of hours finding and putting stuff in. All for the sole sake of the enlightment of anyone else who comes to the page^^

Wow!! That is amazing that such a place existed. Those pictures are sooo similar to some of the scene in the anime.

I wanna go visit there one day...hopefully before I die.

If anyone play the game please let me if some of the scene are the same as in the anime show. I notice that the game came out in 199- and anime was released in 05 so there is a difference in year.

Actually, I believe Air originally came out in 2000, the year after Kanon, though there's still quite a gap between the release of the game and the anime. I'd say the series was quite faithful to the game in terms of locations, though -- here are a few backgrounds that I think you'll recognize immediately...

Do what they do over at japan-geographic.tv, just walk around and silently film everything. That was actually a request...

I might do that, although I do not think I'll be bringing my videocamera, so I'll just do it a little with my digicam.
Although hopefully I'll be out when not many people are about, because I do not want to be mobbed.
On a related note, anyone know anything about making masks for animegao?

Wow you're really going there? In *Summer*? Lucky. I really don't need to request anything as you'll obviously take photos of many of the familiar places.

But if would be nice if you could report back what being there felt like, not just comparing it to the series but as a regular town as well. Did Key try to be as close of the real thing as possible in AIR or did they just snap some photos for backgrounds and used artistic license on the rest?

I would also wonder if it is known to even some of the residents of Kami that an anime was based on their town. Altho I would assume not as there's countless animes based on many places in Japan but who knows

We'll find out! Hopefully I can make a good report on this without being too overwhelmed by the AIRness. No pun intended.
