The director? already said it, but it isn't a card battle anime like Yugioh. (In the first place, there isn't enough time to do that). It's an anime that uses cards, but that is all. No focus on the actual card battles.
Of course, whenever they do use cards, those cards are real though. For instance, Honest is WX15's Ril's ability which allows you to look at your opponent's hand and Lrig Deck. Suzuko used the cards from the upcoming starter. Guzuko was using the upcoming Black-colored Toys. Other than that, during the WIXOSS scene between the two girls, one was using Ann and the other one was using Aiyai. During the WIXOSS scene between the two guys, one was using the current "strongest" deck in WIXOSS, Red-Green Yuzuki. The starter deck the girl was holding was Piruluk's. Of course, you don't need to know any of this to enjoy the anime, but knowing it would make the battles more "Oh?"

le sigh, I suppose I can just skip the scenes that are the same and rush to the new parts. Edit: Watching this movie makes me feel bad for Yuzuki all over again. She w̶a̶s̶ is my favorite.
I also watched the first episode of the new series. A promising start. The lack of the wish component to these duels is an interesting choice. In the original series, each girls wish was a convenient way to give character development to the characters. Though I suppose they can just use the the memory aspect of the fights for character development. The LRIG's are all created from each selector's memories and its imply they are the most important part of the owners memories. Which means I expect we shall see the memory origins for each LRIG. It will be interesting to see how their origin reflects on each LRIG's personality. As others have already pointed out, our heroine LRIG is obvious strong will and brave because thats how Homura remembers her childhood friend. Its like theres a new genre of anime, cute girls + despair and suffering. I kind of feel bad for watching these shows but I can't stop. lol

I am guessing one or both of Suzuko and Chinatsu will bet their memories of the other at an inopportune moment and lose. That will precipitate the one who made the unfortunate bet to forget the other, which is the primary catalyst for the two's suffering in this series.
Spoiler for movie vs TV epilogue comparison:

The coin system seems a bit whack though. Why could MG bet 1 coin if that's all she had left? If she lost she'd have lost the coin anyways. And when she won she got to keep the coin she bet... Unless it works that if you lose, you'll lose all the coins you bet in addition to the original cost of losing 1 coin per loss... Then that means that if you only have 1 left you sort of get a boost in that you could use your coin freely since you'll lose either way.

Episode 1:
"Another story, another BATTORU~!" Seriously, the stakes are higher than the Selector Infected/Spread WIXOSS now that Selectors must win battle in order to retain their existence. Still, I wonder if Suzuko will continue battling until she found Chinatsu? I mean, even though she won 5 gold coins, that doesn't mean that Suzuko is freed from doing Selector battles. Anyways, I can't wait for the next episode... |

Although maniac, the scenes that were reused from the TV series did get redubbed, so the lines sometimes sounds different from the TV version. A few scenes had the content changed, like Yuzuki using Umr/Tawil's Arts card... which doesn't really matter story-wise.

Well, I watched the movie and I must say that was one hell of a yuritastic ending. lol The original ending to spread felt a bit bitter sweet while this was much more clearly happy. Not really worth watching a movie for but at the very least it refreshed my memory on the events of the original. Ah, dem twists were a bit crazy. lol

Lostorage incited WIXOSS. First Thoughts
Memories / Front and End
Welcome back to the world of WIXOSS once again. This time seems we have an all brand-new story featuring Suzu and Chinatsu as protagonists, whom have yet to meet again after not seeing each other since their childhood. The first episode, IMO, holds well at reintroducing the world of Selectors and battles along with the Lrig while not outstretching or rushing the pace with Riru explaining the rules and mechanics to Suzu; didn't feel drowsy at all. To me Suzu's fear is understandable if her ordinary life gets shaken out of the blue to participate in a game without her consent, and fight for her very existence in order to preserve her precious memories. So, the theme in this story is about memories and the consequences to one's self if the selector happens to lose all those memories. In fact, we got that some rules either changed or no longer are imposed: For starters, while Selectors in the spread/infected/destructed universe happened to be all female, if my memory served me right, in the lostorage universe Selectors can be either sex, however, Lrigs are still all girls. I believe it makes sense why they came up with Lostorage as part of the title, since memories are playing a pivotal theme and plot device to move the plot forward. I can interpret Lostorage as a deliberate mistransliteration to the words "Lost Storage" or "Lost Age". The first phrase pretty much is self-explanatory alluding to one's loss of memories while the second phrase could pose for Suzu's potential risk at losing her memories of Chinatsu from her childhood days and even her memories about her late mother. As for incited, it means to stir up or provocation. The thought of losing her memories about Chinatsu is what drives or incites Suzu to agree taking part in the battles as a Selector so as not to lose them. Spoiler:
Personally, I would prefer if the story and settings are taking place in another universe or reality within the WIXOSS multiverse for a fresh start. The spread/infected/destructed storylines pretty much told, covered, and satisfactorily concluded Ruko, Tama, and Mayu stories along with the rest of all other selectors and Lrig. Hence, I'm really desiring for the writers to head towards a completely, brand-new story with an assortment of different and new characters. |

Spoiler for ep2:
PS: For people that understand, the official website partially (more clearly?) explains what happened during the battle in episode 1. That said, the anime clearly skipped important steps, so this is only a partial reproduction of the battle. http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products...n/play_161014/

So we get more background storytelling between the two main girls.. I'm not sure I like Chinatsu much yet though as she seems somewhat insecure about herself. The battles seems interesting although feels fast paced.
Hope they get a longer match soon (bet it will be between Chinatsu and Homura in the future). The ED theme song seems decent, although I like the OP song better.
