Live Earth 07/07/2007

Has anyone been watching Live Earth? It's a world-wide concert that aims to promote awareness of how our actions effect the Earth. There is currently feeds coming from Japan (Tokyo), Australia (Sydney), and South Africa... with an American and German feed coming on-air later today (July 7th).

I don't know the correct channels for the feeds in America, but if you are Canadian you can check it out on the following:

CTV - Switches between Tokyo and Sydney based on which channel actually airing that feed goes to commercial (so you never miss a second).

MUCH - Tokyo, Japan.

MUCHMORE - Sydney, Australia

MUCHVIBE - South Africa

I am unaware of the others are they are not on-air yet.

The reason I bring this up is because the cause is worth it, and it fits in on this forum. The Tokyo feed features bands popular in Japan and neighboring areas.

Rize was just on, Koda Kumi is coming up, and right now it's Ayaki.

Check it out.

And also while I knew the whole thing was about global awareness, after I saw the list of bands and ticket prices (here in the U.S) I lost interest because it's way too expensive for me to go to. Being ignorant beacuse of lost interest, I did not know that this event was taking place elsewhere in the world until this thread since the U.S. lineup alone must have taken millions of dollars to assemble.

It's on in England as well. The New Wembley Stadium to be exact. The Pussy Cat Dolls are on as I type.

It was funny as hell earlier. Chris Rock came on stage told a joke and called the crowd a bunch of Mutherfuckers lol. It was only like 18:00. They immediately cut to Jonathon Ross who made a lame attempt of an apology to viewers. Hilarious!

Edit:

Line Up:

Beastie Boys
Black Eyed Peas
Bloc Party
Corinne Bailey Rae
Damien Rice
David Gray
Duran Duran
Foo Fighters
Genesis
James Blunt
John Legend
Keane
Madonna
Paolo Nutini
Razorlight
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Pussy Cat Dolls
Metallica

Guys, did you notice the "SOS" logo?

You know what else is happening on 7/7/07?

I knew it... Haruhi has already infiltrated major world events

The China feed was really poor. Tokyo had some good shows, but I was rather disappointed with it as a whole. Australia was solid. American and London were by far the best, in my opinion, with London outweighing America with Madonna's performance.

I watched it... from an American perspective I got annoyed because they'd show *CLIPS* of music from the rest of the world (asian, african, etc) but would cut back to dorky interviews rather than let us SEE what looked like some really interesting music (like the Shanghai and Tokyo experience).

No complaints about the roster of star groups in America and London though, something for everyone.

I thought the tips and tricks to help reduce our impact on the environment were pretty well done and mostly informative. If momma didn't teach you to pick up after yourself then momma failed, eh?

@ashibaka: hahahaha.. good catch on the SOS meme.

I happen to be in Shanghai at the moment so I went and saw the performance yesterday. A big, fat BORING is how I would describe the event.

Yeah, I saw the clip show for Shanghai on MSNBC and it looked rather boring.

The best part of Live Earth was probably the band of scientists playing from ANTARTICA during the continent's winter. I've read somewhere that it's so cold this time of the year that you can't even enter or leave by ship or plane because both the water and air are so frozen, they'd easily wreck your ship/plane. I'd bet a lot of the main acts elsewhere would puss out if they had to play in Antartica. Geez. A lot of other performances sounded like there was no real passion/energy behind them (that or the mixing was terrible), and it really gave me a "whatever, we're just here to make lots of money in addition to the lots of money we already have" vibe. I'd take cheap $15 NYC venue shows over Live Earth any day.

Here's the scientist band:

I would have watched it to see Abingdon School Boys rock out. Does anyone know if they did a live version of Howling, the one from Darker Than Black.

Live Earth Tokyo performance by Abingdon Boys School:

The first song is the D-Gray Man OP (don't know the name). The second one is the Darker Than Black OP, Howling. Their performance was better than what I expected.

I watched parts of it on TV....
and I gotta say: RIHANNA CANNOT SING! She was horrible!

It also seemed that the only performance that got the crowd hyped up was Linkin Park's. The audience was so bored and quiet for everyone else....it kindda made me laugh!

Really, when I saw the ABS concert it was pretty hyped up, but of course it's Linkin Park...
