Each shot can be placed by randomly choosing two values: 1) A direction pointing away from the center of the aiming circle 2) A distance away from the center of the aiming circle That distance is distributed according to a Gaussian distribution. However, the "real" distribution (as opposed to the one used in the game) would let us choose any distance, even ridiculously huge ones, so WG chose to limit how large a distance would be acceptable. However, they did this in an unusual way: if we randomly chose a distance that was larger than the limit they wanted, they have that shot land on the edge of the circle. That's why arty players feel like so many shots land on the edge of the aiming circle: 20% of the shots really do hit the edge! (This happens for tanks as well, but it's much easier to notice when in an SPG.) In 0.8.6, they are making the distribution more peaked (so you wouldn't pick a value outside the circle as often), and aren't having those shots only hit the border when they do get picked; instead, a distance from center will be randomly chosen with a flat distribution." So yes, the new hit probabilities will tail off evenly at the edge of the circle, instead of forming a freaky lip of missing at the edge. __________________

Need to pad it out a bit, then hit the higher tiers after this. Did some platooning with Achi and Darjeeling, and since we started at tier 7, before turning around to tier 5, my tier average is actually higher than usual. __________________

Only tank tracers, arty tracers will still be there. It's sad because I love to track enemy tanks in camo cover trought their tracers with the arty, and rain HE over their sorry heads. Mostly resulting in "wtf f*** arty hax"
