New Nanatsu no Taizai Series (The Seven Deadly Sins)

A brand new Nanatsu no Taizai series has been announced for 2016. It is not season 2 but branded as a "new series" scheduled for 2016. I think it will air on TV though.

Announced at the end of Arslan Senki's finale.

Trailer:

Note: it is unknown yet if it's season 2 or not but so far is labeled as a brand new Nanatsu no Taizai.

These episodes were written by Nakaba so it stands to reason that it's a prelude. Episode 1 was pretty good and seeing Hawk shenanigans is always a plus.

Decent start although I hope the show gets into a more serious mood. There's also some characters that I hope will at least make a cameo later.

Good to hear Hawk again. Fun little Pork. I mean pig.

The latter. Like Seafoam said, it feels like a prelude of sorts.

Fun episode, but the way it started had me thinking it was actually the continuation of the series. Still, this is too good to pass on, mini-Hawk's attacks are devastating

Episode 1

Well this is a direct continuation of the previous season. But whether it will continue whatever story was left or not, I'm not sure. Although I don't think the story of the previous season needs any continuation since everything pretty much seemed more or less wrapped up.

This episode had some hints towards future events – Meliodas did something pretty bad and doesn't want anyone to know about it, he is going on a journey or something, and there was a flying arm. The rest of the happenings in this episode were all random shenanigans which were of no importance. It was a bit amusing though. That pig though, going places and seeing things every man dreams of in their private time... Ban and Meliodas are going to fight each other as promised soon which should be cool.

Also, why is Elizabeth still wearing those clothes? She's back in the castle now so shouldn't she be wearing new clothes everyday? I mean, she's a princess so obviously she has a whole wardrobe with more and better clothes than that revealing outfit Meliodas gave her. Or maybe she likes wearing clothes like that. Or could be it's because Meliodas gave those clothes to her that she's wearing them. Or it could be laziness on the staff's part. But she should really go for a change of clothes.

The fight between Meliodas and Ban imo was alright, quite entertaining because of the both of their personalities. Although the outcome was obvious though...as neither men killed each other.

The other "fight" outside made me face palm. Poor King. Physically, he is no doubt the weakest in this series.

Episode 2

The fight was pretty disappointing. Kinda felt a bit lazy. Holing them up in a box with nothing to be destroyed around made the fight less exciting. If they had gone wild outside and destroyed mountains and burned forests by their sheer strength it would have been way more exciting. Howzer vs King was just a waste of time and served no purpose. It wasn't even funny. Gil was fine in the first season when he had some badassery in him. Now he's a loser who's actually crying god dammit! And now we're going to get more wastage of time with Howzer and King going after Diane or whatever. They should focus more on the stuff like the king's vision or that flying arm.

I too am rather disappointed. I already accept the fact that apparently these few episodes the anime is getting right now are like a prelude to what actually comes later in the manga, but I don't really feel the coolness this series is known for and the gags are lukewarm to put it nicely. The execution is definitely lacking. Furthermore, the VAs, namely Amamiya Sora, sounds a bit too different to how she sounded as Elizabeth before. Funnily she did improve in ep 2, but still not quite what it used to be. So yeah, there's not much to see or hear here so I'll just take it as some sort of memory refresher.

First two episodes made me even more sad about the fact that we didn't have a full cour of Arslan instead.

They've been enjoyable episodes. Some nice little moments with the main cast while setting up the sequel. Can avoid having to include the stuff with Dreyus and Hendrickson in the likely upcoming second season by having included it now.

The Diane and King episode was a lot better than I expected. Thought it'd be a weak love triangle episode, but rather it focused mostly on those two. A nice reveal that Diane has basically regained her memories of the past. Which of course drastically changes her relationship with King, at least from her point of view.

The downside was ending with the lame memory wipe on King, but such is. Still worth it for the episode we got. And it did advance some things in terms of her views and interactions with the city. Having spent a lot of her free time actually going around and helping with the rebuild.

I guess these episodes serves more as fan service rather than storytelling. I'm glad Diane and King got their moments though, especially King since he's one of my favorite characters.

In the meantime, I wonder if the finale will take on a more serious tone..
