No, it's the slight change in hairstyle that brought in a completely new feel in this character. To be honest she wasn't remarkable in the novel illustrations, but here in this anime she's just a magnificent beauty.
And about her pyjamas (or red sweater or whatever you call it), that's a pretty bold design and even bolder for Suguha to wear it as a high school girl lol.
