Actually there was quite a lot. That scene at the beginning of the episode when Maki is looking down the window and locks eyes with Riko who's just getting to school, and then both blush and avert their eyes (which is an anime original scene), sets the tone for the whole episode. After that, every time they're close to each other there's a yuri vibe to it....

One thing for sure, the director/writer is pretty damn clever.

Right. Classic setup for het-to-yuri switch.

I'm not sure if its clever or not, though. It could backlash. Playing with the feelings of otakus can be a dangerous game.

Well, this is an adaptation, so the target audience has the source material readily available...

^^ first episode was hilarious. Not sure if it has any storyline, but as long as they keep delivering the jokes I'm fine with it.

So we were mislead. Does it mean we will get a delusonal version of girly views, expectations on dating? Then I actually do want boys too show up. Women tend to depict romance nicely as long it is not trainwreck jousei.

Btw I didnt expect such nice animation from this series. Like when a bag's strap fall of and Riko picked it up and overall fluidity. Hopefully they can keep up for few more episodes. However it turns out I'm tentative.

The yuri here is the shy girl, no doubt about it,... I can smell it... Wild girl is straight.... but convertible...

Not touching this show with a ten foot pole. The shitstorm has been pretty hilarious though. Seems to have raised a bit of controversy even over in Japan, the least products of which include this freakin' brilliant parody.

That parody is hilarious. The show itself is actually pretty decent, but we should let everybody know what to expect so they don't end up massively disappointed. I myself was mislead by the first episode. Now that I know what I'm in for, I'm fine with it.

I don't really see any of this shitstorm though. I don't even think this anime had that much hype or notice.
So yeah, in whatever way, it is nice that this anime is getting more noticed. As far as episode one goes, it deserves it.

Why not? Too much implied yuri? Too little actual yuri? So far, the show is hilarious, for me. Having watched the ep another time, I'm ready to say that Akasaki Chinatsu is brilliant here. And so is some of the comic drawing/animation. Those octopus legs, stupid as they are, are classic. So is the 200km/h toast-in-mouth scene.

Thanks for posting the parody manga, which is also funny.

It must be for the same reason shown in that parody.

Well, it does have great comedy, imo. Humor is very subjective, of course, but if you found this first episode really funny, it would be a shame to drop it over yuri vs. het. Anybody who knows about my tastes in anime knows that I'm a huge yurifan, but I wouldn't turn away from an excellent comedy just because of where it falls on yuri vs. het.

Personally, I wouldn't drop a series for lack of yuri, but I would for being intentionally misleading, which might be the case with this one.

Yeah, I can't understand guys who would drop it for such reason. It's not like genre itself was ever indicator of quality, was it?

Well, I'm glad everybody on this thread was given a heads-up about it. Fact is, a lot of people try anime blind or at least semi-blind. In any event, I typically don't consult the source material before I go into an anime adaptation of it because I typically want to experience the story through the anime. If I was just watching this show, and hadn't been reading this thread, my expectations for this show would be quite different.

I'm generally not a big fan of bait-and-switches, but let's see what Episodes 2 and 3 are like.
