Amane's scene at the beginning was just too much. The way Yuji handled it was hilarious too. It was fun seeing Yuji actually lose his composure for once in this episode.

Whelp. Amane confirmed for being a utter and complete Nympho. I don't even....

Little late to be saying this now, brah.

Actually the funniest moment for me was the pouch scene (though was certainly great) but rather the cat one. Mainly due it's reactions to whole thing (wish I knew how to make gifs since it's even more amusing that way).

...I'm looks more confused and perturbed to me!

Funny enough, I think what's carrying the show most for me is rather Yuuji himself than the girls. His nonplussed reactions followed by his quick wit is just make most of the scenes for me (through him losing it at the end of the whole pouch ordeal a bit had it's own charm). He's a lot like another favorite of mine, Nozaki-kun only he's a former (?) hitman rather than mangaka. Definitely not like your average VN protagonist at any rate which is good otherwise I probably couldn't have watch the show this far otherwise.

It's good that you brought this up because as much as I enjoyed the whole episode, when it ended I couldn't help but think the samething. Honestly I'm rather lost at the direction this going/trying to go. I mean aside for that one ominous scene at end of the first episode this has been very slapstick sprinkled with bits of sexual humor and light drama. I still believe there a storm of sorts coming, but if show leans too much in this atmosphere when does happened, it's gonna create a severe moodwhiplash for a lot of people. Again don't get me wrong this pretty fun so far, but I'm quite surprised how super cherry this show is, and I hope when it comes time for the to pants drop so to speak things won't end up jarring.

Hmm, I wonder if AT-X has this scene uncen- Oh wait, there's none of it!

Still, what a surprise that Yuuji lost his composure on this episode.

I think this is the first time I encounter a pervert-type girl in VN-adaptation anime

I just realized why the animation is so pretty... A certain Hisasi person is behind it (found his name in the credits scene)
The upshot of Amane walking towards Yuuji's bed looked really good for no reason lol. Coming off as a VN adaptation I had very little expectations for the animation so the overall quality has caught me off guard. If only Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete could look half as good lol.

BTW, did this episode feel... Bakemonogatari-ish at some parts to anyone? In particularity during the pouch scene where the camera pans a bit as Yuuji does a head tilt. His later over the top reaction is also reminiscent of Araragi's.

Ep 03

Was not expecting the ep to go all out comedy...the scene with the cat and the twintailed blond Michiru was especially silly. Did I fall asleep and suddenly find myself in a Calvin n Hobbes themed humor series made by Shaft or something?

All in all I kinda prefer it when the series is serious and sprinkles in the humor here and there instead of vice versa percentages.

You know though, Amane may or may not be a nympho, but I still and a little uneasy and unnerved by hearing about the mental damage after the traffic accident. Wasn't she seething in anger at thinking she discovered Yuuji as bound up with it in an earlier ep? Between that, the "nympho" behavior and being an accomplished lock picker quite frankly she creeps me out in a dangerous vibe kinda way....

This week is the third different ED too...wonder why they opted to do that and whether it will be a different one every ep?

There is a Monogatari connection. The original character designer for the game Akio Watanabe is the character designer for the various Monogatari animes. I especially see it with the way Sakaki is drawn in the game and one of her stock poses. She reminds me very much of Senjougahara

Spoiler for comparison to the tone of the VN verses the tone of the anime:

Great episode. They may have jumped around with the scenes in the visual novel but really the common route can jump around given it's mostly comedic hijinks with subtle foreshadowing. If they have done a 1:1 adapation then the common route would have taken at least 13 episodes which yeah I don't think they've got that luxury even if this is 24 episodes. Also Yuuji is clearly MC of the year . The fanservice is great and so far the staff clearly understands the source material, which is fantastic. Now let's just hope they continue this streak. One thing I do like seeing is Yuuji's expression because well hey by now I'm willingly to bet people won't call him the next Tatsuya . Takahiro Sakurai is abosultely killing it as Yuuji. Looking foward to see where this goes.

Actually no given this ending is the actual anime ending/credits. Also the first episode didn't have any ending.

Spoiler for where second ending song came from:

Very funny episode, from start to finish, and that is said by someone who usually doesn't like comedy series, but this one has just the right balance of everything. Best moment among them, when they pressed the nose of the bush dog pouch and it spoke, I didn't expect Sachi going that far, in only 20 minutes (were those really 20 minutes? it seemed like 5. In any case ... weeks, days? No, 20 minutes ).

But yes I also sorta got a bit confused about the constant over humorous tone, I don't know when we'll go to the real deal, or deals. That in relation of the number of episodes. So far the only connection to the serious tone seems to be Yumiko.
Not a complain in any case. I could watch the girls and Yuuji interactions for hours ah-a.

Sadly you have to wait for the DVD/blu-ray but hey look at the bright side at least it's not like Terra Formars where that instantly became an internet meme with how much the censoring was.

After all those comments about Yuuji's exceptional behaviour, I almost want Makina's route to be adapted.

Anyway, for now Grisaia seems more like a 4koma's adaptation instead of VN's. Kind of disturbing, but fits with Common Route's general mood.

I feel a bit bad to voice a contrary opinion, but other than episodes 1 and 2, I could not enjoy episode 3 at all... in fact, it reminded me of all the things which built my frustration over time, and which ultimately caused me to drop the game.

My main problem is that with the exception of Ama-nee and to some degree Sakaki, the rest of the girls are acting... please forgive the term... mentally retarded. I find it difficult to laugh when the supposed iincho wants to drive to Hokkaido for the most delicious milk. I find it difficult to laugh when the token loli is parroting each line of the MC, and I find it difficult to laugh when Michiru is having another pseudo-tsundere fit. In the game, to top it off, the MC is often acting towards these girls in a way which is best described as malicious asshattery. Most of these girls would need professional help much more than someone playing practical jokes on them.

Games like this are supposed to send a message: "Wouldn't it be nice to be part of this group of people?" - compare this to Majikoi, for example. There I would most likely enjoy it quite a bit. However, the fantasy of me having to live with the Grisaia crew currently only makes me want to scream and run away.

I'll continue to watch the show, because I really want to understand what the deal is with the big fanbase that this franchise has - there MUST be a reason for it, so I assume/hope that it will become apparent to me in the future. But I reserve the right to fast-forward the supposedly funny antics. And after doing so in ep3 (since I recognized the scene from the game), episode 3 didn't take longer than 5-6 minutes to watch for me.

Am I really the only one who this anime rubs the wrong way?

There's not much to be said without delving into spoiler territory, but suffice it to say that there is a meaning behind the gags and I think that a bit of baffled head-scratching is at least partially the intent behind it. With that said, if you don't find it funny you don't find it funny; nothing I can really say about that.

Well you see how to put this. As someone that has only read and 100% completed Grisaia no Kajitsu but not the whole trilogy it just might not be for you. The thing that the fanbase loves about Grisaia is the humor and the writing. If either those two things doesn't work for you now then in all honesty it won't at all. There's many different sort of comedy and sometimes we find somes we don't find funny or like. In many ways for me The Big Bang Theory I don't find funny at all but many people do.

Another thing I like to point is the main visual novel writer Ryuuta Fujisaki is as to quote someone (excuse the french)
Quote:
fucking out of his goddamn mind moreso than any other writer
thus meaning he is a really strange writer that not only writes odd humor but also bizzare stories (and Grisaia is his tamest one so keep that in mind).

And like the person above there is reasoning behind the jokes. It might not work for you but there is. So yeah, in sort I just say don't watch it because it will be in this comedy adventure time for quite a while (even if we head into one of the girls route).

Thanks for the replies, guys! It does help with adjusting my expectations quite a bit!

Please be aware that by no means I'm saying that this is a bad game/anime. Just that for the reason given I'm afraid it will be difficult for _me_ to enjoy it, assuming that the majority of the show is about these comedic antics ^_^;

Hope we'll be getting into the girl's paths sooner rather than later, then!

If those were your complaints about the game, I would think the anime would be better in that regard, since its going to cut out a LOT of the fluff retard comedy scenes. And try to keep the ones important enough for character building.

I feel that the milk scene with Sachi is rather important. And Michiru's tsunder fits so far are at least in the background of such, and its something that should build up over time in small clips.
