Best Player for Subtitles

I have a movie with external subtitles, in .SRT format. I'm playing it though my TV with an ATI AIW card. I've used BSPlayer for the longest time (subtitles), and VLC for everything else. But I've noticed, my video is very choppy when using BSPlayer. The video doesn't play smooth in pans, and sometimes freezes for a few seconds and then starts again playing very fast in order to catch up.

I tried using VLC, but the subtitle function is rather... horrible.

The other option is using my DivX player in the living room, since it has an amazing subtitle feature. But I'd rather stay in here, warm, in bed.

So my question: Are there any good players to use when watching a movie with external subtitles?

MPC or ZoomPlayer + VSFilter. BSPlayer fails it not only in general, but also at rendering subtitles.
