XviD vs MKV?

I've been into fansubs for a few years now, and have kept to the XviD and DivX encodes. But recently started to see MKV around.

What is this MKV format, and is it any better than XviD in comparison? Keeping in mind that the same episode is encoded to both, and kept at the same output size.

You might as well ask "which is better, apples or plastic"?

Two totally different things: One is a video compression codec, the other is a container format designed to HOLD video and audio.

I see what you mean with that. Can't really compare the two as such.
I'll probably just stick with XviD until h264 becomes a little more common.

Thanks for the info though.
