hmm...
The show is rather uniquely indefinable so I don't really know how to respond.

For randomness, Furi Kuri
For differentness, Ghost Hunt
For romantic ecchiness, Midori no Hibi
For mysteriousness, Haibane Renmei
For supernaturalness, Kamichu!
For existentialismness, Zegapain

Those all can be said to be not quite entirely unlike Suzumiya.

If its the surreal mystery, tragedy, and romance in AIR you liked, you might take a look at Kanon 2006 (currently being aired and subbed).
If it was the religious or historical context... its a bit tougher to find a match.... though Kamichu! comes to mind again (no tragic epic there though).

edit: I take it back. You HAVE to watch Kanon (2006 version by KyoAni).

Air the Movie if you have not seen it yet. Unlike the series has actual romance. I was moved more by the movie than the series

Kanon - ongoing, produced by the same company that did Air. (dang, Vexx beat me to it

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien - romance/drama
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu - romance/drama/SciFi
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora
Saikano - Romance/Drama/SciFi... very similar in a way to Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu, tho i prefer Iriya no Sora over this one by a landslide.

If you want somethign as completely insane as SHnY, you MUST watch Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, and the current Negima!?

Well, first thing that comes to mind when you are talking about SHnY is its comedic flair and the superb narrative style so something similar to SHnY for me will be Ouran High School Host Club.

Welcome to the NHK!, very unique and just as great. The only thing that bothers me is that the manga is SO much better and the anime does a good job of closing up. However if you can, READ the manga, just like FMA you won't regret it.

thats a pretty good list

maybe Mushi-shi , its completly different , but just as Haruhi , its not a typical anime , so you might like it

Kanon, of course lol. It has the same voice character as the main caracther and the same atitude. The graphic is the same also.
