a comedy anime

I'm looking for a comedic anime, one thats realistic. Think Lucky Star, and you've got the kind of anime I'm looking for.

Genshiken for sure. Very similar style, if not more comedic?

Then again i am not 100% sure of what you mean 'realistic'. If you mean non-fantasy elements, i'd recommend School Rumble and Full Metal Panic:Fumoffu, which rank top in my list.

If you mean more realistic personalities (as in, more likely to meat IRL and not characters to taken to extremes for comedy's sake), there's is perhaps Lovely Complex.

Maybe Ouran Koukou Host Club or Suzumiya Haruhi or Azumanga Daoih as well.

Two other shows in the school comedy genre that you might enjoy include:

Nodame Cantabile - college-aged students attending a professional music academy
Hidamari Sketch - four girls attending a high-school-level arts academy

Another excellent series that has both comedy and some drama is Hataraki Man about a 28-yo female editor working in a Japanese publishing house. The lovely little romantic comedy, REC, concerns a wannabe seiyuu who takes up residence with a junior marketing executive after her house burns down.

All of these are unlicensed and listed on the main page,

Great Teacher Onizuka all the way. Also try Azumanga Daiho which is a slice of life thus not as funny as Great Teacher Onizuka. remember me when you become a hard core Great Teacher Onizuka fan. Its hilarious. Watch great teacher onizuka. yea.

Jungle wa Itsumo Hale nochi Guu - Not really realistic par-say, but it just includes some things(I'm saying things so there aren't any spoilers) for comedic purposes. Also its definitely one of the funniest anime out there.

Also I second School Rumble, one of my favorites and Fumoffu, also very funny.

I'd go for Gokusen. It's like GTO, only with more delinquents.
