OK, that little mystery solved now. The drive has a connector fitted over the pins, it was so tightly fitted that I thought it was part of the drive. Must be something that Dell add to they drive to fit into the laptop.

Once I remove it I can connect the drive to the Adaptor I have. If I have time I'll take a photo of it and post it here.

Sorry for not replying earlier, but it seems the problem of connecting it to a PC is solved now. I wish you maximum success with the disk restoration

I've used Active@ Undelete and not Active@ Partition Recovery. They seem to be different in that partition recovery tries to re-create the partition table and make the disk usable again while undelete tries to recover files without restoring the disk.
Undelete shows all drives and devices on the left side and I can select them there to scan them for partitions or files. I don't know how partition recovery works, though.
