USB Operating systems, *nix advice needed

I know that there are *nix based O/S's that can be run from USB. I just need a very very basic o/s I can pt on a 4gb usb stick that I can run on a barebone pc. (VIA to the rescue Lol)Environmental conditions and minimal power requirements require that I do not use a HDD and passive cooling.
Before you ask "How do I convert fansubs to...." see the following

I'd start with Damn Small Linux.

There are a number of desktop Linux distros that fit on a single CD like Ubuntu and Knoppix. It might be possible to install Ubuntu to a 4 GB pen drive as well. I've only installed onto hard drives so I'm no expert in these matters.

Damn Small Linux, as I gather, is the best option. Only 50 MB and you get a full-blown OS.

Place them in a box until a quieter time | Lights down, you up and die.

DSL is a great option when you don't have much space, but with a few gigabytes to work with I'd look at Ubuntu or Knoppix.

If you're familiar with Linux, here's a decent site to help you examine your different options.

I await patiently
the gift promised to me.
