Lookin for more serious anime, any suggestions?

Looking for more serious anime to get into if anyone knows any

Examples would be

-ghost in the shell
-claymore
-kiba
-shounen onmyouji
-cowboy bebop
-samurai champloo

Anything kinda with a more mature story line in it with some actual substance to the characters....

Thanks for all your help.

It depends on what you mean by "serious." Do you mean something with more dark, tragic themes? Or just something that's character-driven, without a lot of "kiddy stuff?"

I finished Eureka Seven recently, and if you haven't seen it already, it might fit the bill. That show was a surprise - it looks like a typical mecha show with a whiny kid hero, but it turns into something totally different. The characters are complex and interesting, and the subject matter is quite mature. It also has a good amount of action.

I highly recommend Beck, which is about a 14 year old boy who discovers himself through music when he meets a charismatic guitar player in the process of forming a rock band. It's not serious in the sense of being dark or depressing, but it's about real-life, populated with realistic, believable characters and has lots of great music and humor. It's one of my personal favorites, so I pretty much tell everyone to see it!

I also hear "Monster" is an excellent anime; I've read the first few volumes of the manga, and if the books are any indication, it could rock your world.

Mature Series:
-Seirei no Moribito
-SaiKano
-Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (maturity debatable, but definitely serious)
-ef - a tale of memories
-Shigofumi
-Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (but you should watch Rurouni Kenshin, 1-62 first)

Younger Characters with Mature Plots:
-Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora
-Bokurano
-Haibane Renmei
-Kino's Journey
-Gunslinger Girl
-Grave of the Fireflies

---

I hope that helped.

The first thing that comes to my mind, Black Lagoon (full raw action, drama, etc.). Can't miss it.

i got Seirei no moribito on DVD recorded but i haven't gotten around to watchin it yet...is it really good?

Tried Black Lagoon and couldn't get into it at all.....

Yeah i guess i'd be headed more towards darker themes that have more so realistic personalities.

Watched kimi and monster and saikano, all excellent anime (cept the last episode of saikano....still confused on that)

Well, Seirei no Moribito is kinda carefree-ish, but it's not a high school comedy/romance, and it portrays a mature relationship (not romantic) with excellent character development.

If you like SaiKano and KgNE, then Bokurano might be very good for you.

Those ones. ^
Maybe Elfen Lied?
That's a mature anime using almost any definition of the word, and it's pretty serious.

You want dark natured and mature? Ergo Proxy is a must, or Texhnolyze.
