problem with program "MKV to AVI converter" about settings

I thought it would be a handy solution for me to use this program, I followed the steps and my configurations are correct

I was using these output settings for an MKV file, 1 video stream, 1 audio stream and 1 subtitle stream it contained

Resolution: Original Siza
Frame rate: 23.976
Resize Mode: Preserve Aspect Ratio
Video Compressor: ffdshow video encoder
Audio compressor: MPEG Layer-3

On the website it was stated that with these settings you could convert a file from MKV to AVI with subtitles, well I hit convert and found it strange that it was finished within less than a second, so I checked the file, it played alright only bad thing was, I saw no sub titles and it was about 3 seconds long instead of 25 minutes >.<
My settings with the Haali Media Splitter and DirectVobSub are as they are supposed to be and now I am wondering what I am doing wrong..
I'm not sure as to what I should change in my settings and was wondering what settings other people use when using this program to convert MKV to AVI with subs
