This is subjective of course. While there are some like me who didn't find them interesting enough to care about their developments, there is also plenty of people who did like them.



To add to the post: I think I have read somewhere that Index is the 3rd most sold LN franchise, with 1st and 2nd place taking two much older series.

However, Railgun has Otaku's on its side. And Otaku's* are very numerous.

-Mikoto returns to the occult convenience store to get information on the Orange in "benikuiooguntaiari" [whatever the hell that is] from Lessar and she meets up with Lancis partway there.
-Along with Lancis, she travels via an indoor leisure pool in order to get past security unseen.
-The bikini-type swimsuit Lancis gives her is "clearly too small for her recommended cup size".
-Lancis, the basest of the 4 New Light members, has her heart saved by negativity (I won't say specifically what).
-Security has eyes in the changing room, so they have to change in a back alley. Mikoto shyly strips and Lancis imposingly stands there completely nude. *Fuyukawa Art
-Lancis is wearing a slingshot.
-Because of security in the pool, they have to jump in the pool and Mikoto starts panicking in the water because her bikini slips to the side while Lancis is completely calm as her slingshot slips to the side revealing what no girl should allow to be seen.
-Bayloupe and Lessar show up.
-They return to the occult convenience store when a piece of heavy weaponry slams into the store in a suicide attack.

I just want to know two things real fast (anyone can answer this if they want, regardless if there right or not)

1. When did the SS2 novel came out? was a bundle pack buying railgun manga vol6?

2. Is this the last SS novel with misaka in russia? or is there a part 3?

(LAST ONE) 3. i notice the illustration is done by the railgun artist: FUYUKAWA Motoi, is that the only picture there in the novel, ex. like where the front cover & etc.

What are you talking about? From what I've seen, the majority of people here are at least neutral about it. I don't see any widespread hate of it or anything.

If it seems like that to you, then it's probably because many of us are Index novel readers and Railgun simply doesn't fit. We have some serious things going on in Index with people who would have died had Touma not been there, tensions rising between factions, blood being shed on the dark side of Academy City, threat of a worldwide war on the horizon - and here comes this slice-of-life series bent on advertising as much Mikoto as possible for her fanbase. It's simply jarring, and I think Chaos2Frozen's comparison is spot-on.

I also do not like the aformentioned Mikoto fanbase. It particularly irritates me when Mikoto fans ask for more screentime of her in Index when she already got her own freaking series.

She was cool even before.

More seriously if you can see your clones being crashed by a train without the slightest change of heart, I will really call you god.

Edit : I read it, it's a good hypothesis but hmmm ... the number of people reading the novel is by far inferior than the number of people looking the anime. And the railgun hate existed before the S2 began ... but whatever, it doesn't matter at this point.

Like I said, there are many people who read the novels.

What Mikoto witnessed and experienced was indeed horrible. However, that was one time she came in contact with the true darkness of Academy City. There are many people in this series who have been experiencing this crap their entire lives. Mikoto has had all the benefits of being a happy little rich girl with a relatively carefree and sheltered life on top of Academy City's social hierarchy (Level 5). Again, this feels very jarring when compared to other Index characters.

And honestly speaking, what the heck is the point of getting angry at moe? Even If you don't like K-On, you don't have to bring that over to Railgun. And people who pick Index over Railgun for the moe factor is like picking the lesser of the two evils. In any case, you know what Railgun fans are going to say next right?

Which is just as bad as condamning Railgun for having cute girls.

Nono, I understand- given a choice I would pick the three Idiots from Index over the four girls from Railgun any day.

But that's not the point, I'm just saying the other characters do get their moments, and that it's not always focus on the four girls.

Currently, Index is the most selling Light Novel, but if we compare of all times then I think it'll fall short.

That said, the real test of strength is to pit New Testament v2 against the long awaited Haruhi 10. If Index can dethrone the God Queen, then we all have an additional bragging chip in our pockets.

Agreed. I've found that people tend to judge characters against each other, not considering their unique merits. Like they do in real life every day.

I don't really hate moe or K-ON! but to me it seems ridiculous when alot of other great animes haven't made good landmark sales like K-ON! has. In MAL i gave Railgun a 7 cuz of the boring middle but the first and last arc were good.(Even though i didn't full finish the last arc.)

When asking people why do you like Accelerator? You're going to find that small little comparison with Touma at the end. When we're having that ridiculous debate on the Main character status of Mikoto, eventually someone is going to bring up that 'she's better than Index'.

Heck we're doing it right now when we's complaining about Railgun.

Comparison is normal and unavoidable, but the haters tend to generalize the characters. Touma has an interesting duality to his personality that people don't see because they're only focus on his 'fighting style'. People can accept the violent side of Mikoto but can't do the same for Index? She's pretty much a tsundere as well right?

It more to me along the lines of Railgun SERIES > Index SERIES bashing and then i explode. Some guy said the index story sucked and the novels are probably not that great. BOOM!, The asshole never read it. But I used my people skills and manipulated him to reading the novels. Waiting to ask him if he has read or not.

Granted though it was probably 1 index fan that started all this or maybe it was a Railgun fan that saw railgun first and then index.

Might help if you keep the timeline in mind. Railgun's timeline hasn't gotten anywhere near the point where things get really serious in Index's timeline.

Not that it matters. Feels like anything that Mikoto does is doomed to get downplayed because she's the one who did it.

So she's not allowed to be affected so badly by the whole experiment because that's the only time she ever experienced something like that? If anything, it should be the other way around; Mikoto's never had to deal with something like that before and that's why it affected her so much.

And why do you keep bringing up the novels? I know this is the novel thread, but how does reading the novels have anything to do with enjoying or not enjoying Railgun? Sure as hell didn't stop Japan from loving it.
