Real Media file to AVI

Sorry if this has been posted before, i didn't see it in the search. I was wondering if there is a way to convert Real Media files into AVI so that they can play in Windows Media Player or in Divix. The quality of these videos are very poor so is there anywhay in the conversion to improve the quality of the video? Thanks for the help!

Garbage in, garbage out. Improving quality is generally a misnomer. (That said, there are ways to improve visual appearance, but they still damage the picture in the end.)

Having said that... I believe "Real Alternative" actually has DShow decoding filters for RealMedia, so from there it's a cakewalk.

If you already have RealOne installed, just install the RealMedia Splitter and you should be able to play the file in any Directshow aware player. After you have the splitter, you can also open the RM file rather easily in virtualdub to convert it, just make an AVS (check Avisynth.org if you don't have a clue about what that is) which says DirectShowSource(filename, fpsofthefile) and open that in virtualdub.
