Best anime of 2010?

What are the best animes (in your opinion) of 2010?
I don't like loli/moe school girl/echi/yaoi crap.
I do like action/romance/drama/mystery/seinen/shonen/etc.

Kuragehime - really just a level above most everything this year
Ore no Imouto - quite decent so far; a little inconsistent
Shinryaku! Ika Musume - an overall decent anime that is occasionally brilliant
Arakawa Under the Bridge - some characters are more obnoxious than funny, but quirky fun nonetheless
Working!! - worth mentioning mostly because there was so little else worth watching when it aired... still, could be very funny

Most of those listed are still airing... endings do ruin an anime sometimes; keeping my fingers crossed on Kuragehime.

Based on what I've seen here are somewhat good for me..

Winter
Durarara for some darkish-seinen anime
Katanagatari for some weird style of animation with a good plot/characters

Spring
House of Five Leaves for seinen
Rainbow for seinen again for some nice plot, characters, storyline
Angel Beats for drama with some great characters involve (don't watch this if you'll feel this is moe-ish)

Summer
Seikimatsu Occult Gakuen - can be a hit and miss anime, anyway I enjoyed it a lot..
Shiki (ongoing) - for horror-ish type anime
Legend of the legendary heroes - for action fantasy
Tamayura - another hit or miss if you don't want moe-ish anime (this one will give you some relaxing feeling I think)

Autumn
I'm not watching many series this autumn so I'll leave it to the other suggestor except for Shinrayku Ika-Musume and KamiNomi which I doubt you will don't like..

I am watching Shiki, House of 5 Leaves, Rainbow, and Detroit Metal City.
I'd also like some comedy similar to DMC.

I will check out Arakawa and Durarara.
Hey I just checked out Kuragehime and it's a josei (i just learned that this means created by women FOR WOMEN). DO NOT WANT.

Rec me some more testosterone infused manly epics like:
Monster
Death Note
Berserk
Neon Genesis
Serial EXP Lain
Spirited Away
5cm per Second :P

This is... well, ignorance I guess. For one, josei is hardly created exclusively by women I'm sure, lol. The instantaneousness dismissal of a genre simply because its demographic is not explicitly the one you socially occupy is also kind of... immature.

Uuuuhm

Anyway, one of my favourites this year, even though it may be a bit presumptuous to recommend it this early, is Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto. I say presumptuous because it hasn't finished yet, however it seems to fit in with your tastes I guess.

Be sure to check out Break Blade too. Just 'cause.

Legend of The Legendary Heroes is highly underrated in 2010. You might not like the first few episodes but it gets better.

I'd nominate House of Five Leaves. It's all about the men. Hakouki Shinsengumi Kitan has a lot of strong males, but the protagonist is a young woman. (She is voiced by Kuwashima Houko, though, which puts it on my must-watch list.) It's fundamentally a shoujo harem.

Shiki is probably the show I have enjoyed the most this year.

Lol guys, i'm not gay it's just that...
Women are generally, usually, almost undoubetly 100% of the time BORING.

Men have humour, talk cars, space, kicking ass, existentialism, football, banging chicks, fighting wars, drilling holes into the heavens with their epic drills (TTGL), hunting bounties all over the galaxy (bebop), using notebooks to change the world (death note), kicking ass in a high school of delinquents (cro high), live their lives as framed murderers (monster), and in general kick ass (berserk).

With women you have fashion envy, man envy, shopping, and getting drunk and just in general BORING stuff, why do you think no female comedians are funny :P
I don't want that in an anime, I can already get that in real life.

I wanna try Katanagatari but the name is soooo hard to say as well as Durarara!! However the art style and general fantasy-fairy-ness of KTNGTRI puts me off.

Lol amd123 you should watch Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt ... Has female leads but is in no ways boring (although I imagine you were just being sarcastic to begin with probably). I also have to say after watching the last episode it might be one of the top 2010 anime and I actually hate the art style but still watch it every week. Just another gainax production that outdoes itself every week.

Edit: Noticed now you were probably referring to shoujou anime not just female leads (aka female in shounen/seinen OK). So my bad on that one.

Mine is:

Star Driver: Great visuals, awesome action.
Shinryaku ika Musume: Never have i seen such a funnier anime than this. Love every episode of it.
Occult Academy: Hit or miss. But it did brought me back into anime after 2 years.
K-On!!: Better written, and more heartwarming than the first. And episode 20 and 24. Full stop.
Kaichou-wa Maid Sama: Loved every single episode. It's funny and romantic. I like it.
Ookami-san and Her Seven Companions: I watched this series twice. It's not great, but the rewatchability factor is amazing. And i can't wait for a season 2, if JC Staff announces it in 2011.

Thanks, JRendell!

I'll just add that I wasn't nominating Hakuoki as a candidate for "best anime of 2010." For me, the only contenders are Cross Game and House of Five Leaves. I'd also nominate the OP's from both shows for a "best of 2010" award. I mentioned Hakuoki in the context of shows about men, even if the story is told from the woman's point of view.

There's a lot about the world of men in Cross Game, too. There's a lot about many things in that show. Don't be put off if you see it categorized as a romance. That's only one of many threads in Cross Game.
