I've tried it... the characters are okay, really, but it's more of an action-shounen than anything. The theme isn't that deep and the focus really is on the action which as far as it goes can be pretty stupid (I'm tired with all the villains using things that Touma can negate).

The biggest turn-off for me is the lack of development for the main character. I certainly favors the author's other Light Novel, The Circumstances Leading to Waltraute's Marriage. It's much more well-written, and the self-aware humor are really actually funny.

You say you don't have any LN's you like. I recommend you try Index, even though I'm sure you know what it is. I like it a lot and it's pretty popular.
