Klashikari 2008-03-08 16:56

New announcement about the translation patch:

We have reached a very satisfying encoding stage. As result, we are currently looking for beta testers. We will provide the first 3 chapters to test out the various problems people might encounter while playing the game.
Obviously, more substancial tests will be required in the future (especially a full one before the final first release).

However, there are of course some conditions:
-You must have your own Umineko episode 2 copy (the base script of the patch works only for episode 2 for the moment). We won't provide ANY file aside of what is necessary for the patch.
-You will be asked to report any glitch you might encounter in the most usual situations (various programs at the same time, different codec or so (for the movie for example). Hence, repeated tests of the same 3 chapters will be done by the beta testers.

Hence, if you feel that you have the motivation to help us finalizing the patch, please PM me and/or Sterling01 for that matter.
We only need 7 persons for this task (we might expand the number however), so don't wait too much, but don't rush either :heh:

Sterling01 2008-03-08 17:28

Oh just to add on to what Klash said:

- If I see the patch floating around the interwebs... I delete everything and the project will become just a faded memory.

- I'll also give out the other chapters as they become ready for testing...

- Don't message me or Klash if you just want the three chapters and won't report any gliches

- You have to like "Black Tea"

Chapter 3 full translation added

This could be called
"Jessica goes Shotakon"
or
"Kanon teaches you how to treat a girl"

Anyway
This pretty much closes the prologue (events before the family meeting) for Episode 2

:heh:

Also the translations to Episode 2's chapter titles

「家具」 = "Furniture"
素晴らしき理想の世界 = Wonderful Dream of the Universe
文化祭 = Culture Festival
チェス盤の準備 = Preperation of the Chess Board
賓客 = Visitor
魔女の一手 =Witch's Move
「家具」と「人」 = "Funiture" and "Man"
結婚指輪 = Wedding Ring
ハロウィン = Halloween
朱志香と嘉音 = Jessica and Kanon

容疑者 = Suspect
狼と羊のパズル = The Puzzle of Wolf and Sheep
悪魔の証明 = The Devil's Proof
屈服 = Surrender

chapter 5

Sterling01 2008-03-19 10:28

Let's see what will be done first the Ep 1 Patch, Ace's translation of Ep 2, the release of Ep 3, or the Ep 1 Manga.

Personally I'm hoping for the last one

Klashikari 2008-03-19 10:30

Considering how chapter 3 of the manga is, It is hardly possible. it would need like 6 chapters to finish episode 1, hence a whole year (bimensual issue heh...).

I think you simply enounce the probable order of what will be done : patch, Ep2 translation then ep 3 :heh:

Sterling01 2008-03-19 10:44

Well I know that.

Also how popular is Halloween in Japan.

Chapter 6

Klashikari 2008-03-21 13:33

Ace... are you acting like a supernova, ready to extinguish itself right after bruning all its might? :heh:
Seriously man, you are really into it XD

Well, a ontopic question nevertherless: how "big" Episode 2 is compared to Episode 1?

That's what 'vacations' with nothing to do make with a guy... :heh::heh:

Well, as for ep2

it's purely a guess but I think like 15% to 20% bigger

Sterling01 2008-03-21 15:08

Now if we only had that beta patch ready....

I really need some free time to look it over

Sonozaki Futagotachi 2008-03-21 18:30

How many chapters were you wanting in the beta patch? I thought it was supposed to be 0-3 :confused:
I only have Chapters 0 & 1 as "ready for insertion"; are others ready?

Thanks,
Mion (Sonozaki Futagotachi)

Sterling01 2008-03-21 21:28

Spoiler for insane ranting:

*calms down*

We were just doing Chapter 0-1 for now.

until the others are ready.

Sonozaki Futagotachi 2008-03-22 13:58

Oh, okay then. Well, my spring break is just starting, so once I get the next Higurashi beta release ready (shortly) I'll do the chapter 1 insertion for the Umineko beta.

still baffle why you people love this game.

maybe i should actually READ what you people are putting up on B-T.

but then again, im scared i might get infected by the madness, which Sterling obviously displayed.

Unless you have the game in hands
I don't think it will make much sense to read that hehe :D

oh well...

guess i have to buy the game.....

erm...is worth buying?

Klashikari 2008-03-23 09:30

That is though question since there isn't much way to know if you will like it or not.
However, if you didn't mind Higurashi, and a possible "cluedo" ambiance, you will most likely like this game, hence worthing the purchase.

Considering the price of it (mere $20 for episode 2) it is vastly worth buying until you pretty much dislike this kind of novel.

Onizuka-GTO 2008-03-23 09:55

$20?

mm.... just shy of £10. not bad.

is this in English?
no wait.

stupid question.

maybe i'll wait for the English patch first. hate using text-hooker or something.

:p

crazysjd89 2008-03-23 17:51

Onizuka could download the Onikakushi segement from Ryukishi07's site and see if he likes that. If they still have that up.

Here's a small thing for you to look at, which is my opinon on the Higurashi visual novel compared to the anime, which may help you.

Pros:
Much better music (in my opinon)
More detailed story.
More clues (so if you like having a better chance at solving it when you go through)

Cons:
No animation, just pictures which change facial expressions, mostly.
Not voice acted (could be considered a pro or con, really, but I just put it in the cons to balance it out)
Probably requires a higher attention span, since it's reading.

Although, that's just with Higurashi, but I'm assuming Umineko will be the about the same way.

Also, I'm on chapter 13 on volume 2, and it so far has pretty much put all my previous theories into a blender, poured in milk, set it to high, blended for 5 minutes, and then drank it.

Chapter 7; Shannon teaches you how to piss Beatrice off

the second longest chapter of all, longer than this, only chapter 12

Rayneing 2008-03-24 15:36

I've noticed that you keep translating うん as 'Uhm', when I'm pretty sure it should be 'Yeah'. Some of the conversations seem kind of awkward because of this.

Elvin 2008-03-24 16:38

I don't think "yeah" suits the image of most of the characters (maybe battler and jessica). Uhm could be used as a sound someone makes in agreement to something, equivalent to our "mhmm".

Rayneing 2008-03-24 16:51

Uhm doesn't give across the image of agreement at all though. It makes it seem like they're confused, or trying to think of something to say. There is a bit where Rosa gets ticked off at Maria when she answers her with 'Uh' but is perfectly okay when she changes her answer to 'Uhm', which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, seeing as they are nearly the same.

Elvin 2008-03-24 17:33

uhm is actually somewhere along the lines of the japanese equivalent to our mhmm, maybe he's so used to hearing it that he thought it was normal for us too. I'm used to hearing it as well so it doesn't bother me.

Well
I thought most of you knew that equivalence hm=yes from watching anime

'yeah' sounds too much 'punkish' for me and I decided to keep at that

well
you understand now:heh:

and,
yes
where I live, this sound 'hmm' means 'yes' too

Sterling01 2008-03-25 11:53

If we translated うん to "Yeah" it would be to, like Ace said, punk

IMO うん is the equivalent to our mhmm but uhm is just as good.

But Ace could I request that you translate Maria's うー to "uu" instead of "uh" it's what we're putting in Episode 1 and it will save Klash some time so he doesn't have to go and change it. (Also when I asked my old Japanese teacher he said that uu would be better)

starting from chapter 9 I'll do that

right now I'm the middle of chapter 8 and I don't feel like changing now :heh::heh:

Just a little update on the Beta Patch/Onscripter issues

So, I think it's in everyone's best interest for me to take care of these fixes first.

I plan on getting onscripter to a state of "works well enough for English translations" and then do a beta release with that version. Hopefully I'll be done with it shortly

Dude

chapter 9

http://www.baka-tsuki.net/project/in...e_2:_Chapter_9

Klashikari 2008-03-28 16:12

Let the slaughter begin huh...

Seriously, it was extremely graphic even if it was only by text. Ryukishi sure was mad and detailed enough, and I didn't feel quite "healthy" with the descriptions and such.
Truely effective, and Beato's taunt was... plain evil and atrocious.
It gave me quite the "OMFG" reaction, and it is as gruesome as Rika's death in higu...

Be it witch or human culprit, it is really horrifying, and the truth will be quite a shocker i guess.

And since I spoiled myself before, by fastforwarding the game to the epilogue, I feel like the "bite" thing will be "URRRH"...

Sterling01 2008-03-28 21:13

"URRRH"...? I don't get it.

Well even though this scene was grusome...

IMO It doesn't match the torture Beato invokes on the people chosen as the sacrifices of the second twilight.
