Given how expensive figurines are, I'm unlikely to buy an ugly figurine of my favourite character. To me, figurines are meant to serve as reminders of why I love a character/series so much, and I'm not really going to get that effect from an ugly figurine.
I only have one exception, and it was a really cheap prize figurine of Kikyou (from Inuyasha) which I bought at a local anime convention:
