I do like Megumin. So even if I'm not sure what this spin-off would really want to do, I'll definitely watch it!

Wait, what?

I have to assume that this, too, is a jolly good old time like the main series, not knowing anything about this spin-off previously...?

Boring... I never knew why Megumin was so popular, unless the world is full of lolicons with explosion fetishes.

I don't really think of Megumin as a loli though...

I mean, I do find it a tad odd how young she's said to be yet how much of the jokes with Kazuma, particularly in the movie, are based on him leering after her.

I mean, Kazuma is only 3 years older. Hardly a big age difference.
Not to mention that he actually waited till she’s 14 to start his actions

Kazuma said in one of the seasons that Megumin is 14 and he is 16, so it's a middle school student dating a high school student, which is perfectly acceptable in his world and norms.

Megumin is the least restricted with her setting and possible companions when it comes to a spin-off, so it's easy to understand why she would be getting one. But it's a prequel spin-off in case people are wondering.

Megumin also won 1st in the official popularity polls in Japan, aside from the time where they did this gag where Aqua had a cheat button and made it so every vote for her counted for 50 points.

Wow, a lot of hate for Megumin going on in here. People seem as confused about her popularity as I am that people would like a woman who loves to go Leeroy Jenkins on Kazuma just so she can get off while the party struggles to survive. I mean, I don't hate her, but I don't get the love. Megumin's fun, and she has the best chemistry with Kazuma I think. And yeah, her being voiced by Takahashi certainly doesn't hurt her popularity.

No question about that. A season of her saying "explosion" with various chants should make it a fun enough show as it is. Absolutely elite voice actress.

I'm not shocked Megumin is popular or that they are confident enough to release not only season 3 but a spin-off series focusing on her. The girl is fun and in that sense I think this should be good.

Just so you know, it's not like this is an anime original spinoff.

The Megumin spinoff LN released even before Konosuba volume 5 (the Crimson Magic village arc that the movie covered) in 2014.

Megumin has been the fan favorite for a long time.

I think it probably helps that there's plenty of story you can tell with Megumin in her school days in her Chuuni village with her family and Yunyun than you could get with Aqua or Darkness on their own .

The story is set in her village? This is going to awesome, although the sheer amount of chuuni might be too much

Without spoiling too much, the first novel is set in her village involving who she met that inspired her to spec everything into Explosion, then when that is over it's about how she struggles to find money and party members as she makes her way to Axel Town with Yunyun before she meets Kazuma. That key visual posted is Megumin in her school uniform.

For context, the LN was published around two months before the main series volume covering Kazuma going to the Crimson Magic Village.

There is a sequel series continuing after she's already in Kazuma's party where she goes off on her own with Yunyun again during the times where Kazuma slacks off, but that's further away since... well, this spinoff needs to happen first along with a character that will be introduced in Season 3.
