Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb (4th TV Series)
Hidamari Sketch will be returning for a fourth season (per the official website), and as with prevous seasons a two-episode OVA special will be released later this year (in November) as a precursor to the new series.
Very much looking forwarding to this sequel, though I wonder if we are beginning to approach the end of the franchise (with the manga-ka just having announced a new project, and part of the original cast getting ever-closer to graduation). That said, another famous show in this basic genre has shown that there is still life after graduation, so I guess we'll see...

The good thing with this franchise is that the episodes aren't in chronological order, even though the overall storyline puts them somewhere in their final year of high school.
And if the previous seasons are anything to go by, this will be good, as always.

YES!
I've seriously been missing Hidamari Sketch and it's been even worse since my younger sister is currently watching it and I keep getting reminded of how much I enjoy that show. I'm hoping Nazuna and Yori get a bit more attention this season, they were seriously wasted on the 3rd one. With this and Tamayura coming up it's going be a great time for slice of life fans like me

I've just been reading volume 5 of the manga, and given this news I've been thinking "YES! YES!! I will just LOVE to see this animated!!!"
Some of volume 5 has already been animated, of course, but bits of it haven't been, and I'm looking forward to those very much! |

If I'm right, I'll be sorry to see them go, but as long as they go out on a high note, I'll be happy.

Spoiler for Volume 5 of the Hidamari Sketch manga:
I think SHAFT is still going to be active in TV anime, with the lack of summer series being due to them working on the Katte ni Kaizo OAV and the Negima Final movie.

It's kinda funny since Shaft used to be one of those studios where they would accept every and all projects because they wanted money, which in turn shows up in their work. Now that they are swimming in money (sort of) they can finally cool down. With that being said I heard work for Negima is being really rushed right now.

Looking forward to this a lot.
Hidamari Sketch has always been one of the shows that does something utterly mundane, but delivers it with such style and impeccable execution that it always comes out on top regardless. Always been a big fan of the character and art design, and the wonderfully inventive direction as well.

So after this announcement, Hidamari Sketch is almost guaranteed to run longer than both Aria and Natsume Yuujinchou, if you count OVA and specials.
I haven't even started this series (the first season is stuck in my backlog), and I've got what looks to be 58 or 59 episodes of slice-of-life goodness from Hidamari Sketch to see. I still have to start watching Natsume S2 and Ikoku Meiro no Crosee, and Tamayura ~hitotose~ is airing soon. I'm glad that I have no shortage at all of slice-of-life to see. |
