It's been a while - Any recommendations?

Howdy!

It's been a few years since I've watched more than an anime series here and there, and very occasionally at that, and since I have some free time, I thought it would be nice to get a list of things to watch when I have nothing else to do! Almost any type of series is good, save for the more ecchi animes I've liked things from Clannad (I've seen all the KEY stuff, by the way) to Baccano to Kara no Kyoukai, so I'm pretty open. As long as it's interesting, and gets me hooked, I'm set to go.

Here's a watched list off the top of my head: Baccano, Durarara, Clannad, Kanon, Air, Little Busters, Ouran, Angel Beats, Fate/Stay Night (can't say I enjoyed the anime, though), Eden of the East, Higurashi, Ghost Hound, Kara no Kyoukai, Phantom, Haruhi, and that's probably the important ones.

Thanks a lot!

Well since it doesn't matter what genre, I'll suggest the ones I likes the most myself. So you already have some of them in your list

For for starters I would recommend Fate/Zero, a prequel to F/SN which is 20 times better.

Aria series - I'm usually not into episodic shows but this one was really good. IF you like slice of life and want to see something relaxing and calm, it is a great choice. If you are in hyper mood, stay away or you'll get bored
Series have interesting characters and some interesting stories. It gets better with each season. Origination is a real treat once you watch all other shows since it gives a rewarding conclusion. First season is called Aria the Animation.
Series focus on new city on different planet that is similar to Venice. Main heroine wants to become a professional undine. Series follow her training and journey. It has both realistic and fantasy touch, almost like any Key work.

Bakuman - not my all time favourite but it has a lot of good stuff going on. Series are about 2 guys who wants to become professional mangaka. We get to learn more about manga industry and how things actually work there what I found interesting and unique. Right now season 3 is airing. Season 1 has a bit weak start but show keeps getting better.

Berserk - old series, won't be surprised if you already saw it. It is based in knight era. Series have interesting characters and story that gradually is building up for something big. 3 remake movies were released not so long ago. I have watched 1st one but to be honest old anime series are better so far.

Chihayafuru - awesome series that got many people by surprise. Just like majority I picked it up out of boredom but ended up loving it. Series are about Chihaya who has great passion for Karuta card game. Game on its own sounds boring but anime was able to give it so much depth that is hard not to get engaged.
Series have great animation, entertaining characters and engaging story. Really worth a try. Season 2 aired yesterday and so far seems to be the best thing of this season.

Claymore - action series based in knight era. Earth is full of human eating monsters and special organization has created special female warriors to haunt them down. Series have interesting animations style, entertaining characters and for me personally, engaging story.

FMA and FMA: Brotherhood - probably best shounen series out there. Original FMA series have an original anime story whole Brotherhood is a remake that follows manga. Only several first episodes are the same. If you won't like FMA, still try Brotherhood since you might like different take on a story there more.

Ga-Rei: Zero - "Will you kill the one you love because of love?" series are huge mix of drama/comedy/action/horror. It starts with action, goes into happy flashback which eventually leads to a heavy final.
Yomi is one of the most memorable characters.

Ghost Hunt - do you like ghosts? Do you like detective stories? If yes, you'll love this one since it is both. Group of specialists are employed to investigate weird cases and find solution to them. Engaging story with engaging set up that keeps you at the edge of your seat, Anime is divided in arcs, each one follows different case. First arc is the weakest.

GTO - old comedy series. Main hero Onizuka is a perv who wants to become the greatest teacher in Japan. However, when things actually ask for it, he is very dependable and will help his students no matter what... though his kind of help is now what you would expect... like for example pushing your student off the bridge... did help!

Hmmm.. K-ON maybe? Slice of life shows where cute girls do cute stuff. No real fanservice, nice songs and pretty funny.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai - a different take on romance/harem. Main hero is the biggest gamer ever and loves to play dating games. However, by accident he signs a contract with a cute demon and is forced to date girls' for real to get bad spirits out of them. If he refuses, his head will be cut off...
Funny romance/comedy with entertaining characters. Keima alone is a win.

I'll stop here for now. Will add more if needed

Well, you listed quite a few Anime I recently watched and really enjoyed, so heres a few:

-Soul Eater: A world slightly less developed than ours, some people exist as weapons and meisers. Weapons are people who have the ability to change into, well, a weapon. Meisers are their everlasting partners, and together they work to destroy Keishens, evil beings. Not to mention they work for lord death himself, who's actually not that bad of a guy!(action, a little romance, a little sexual humor)

Fullmetal alchemist is another good series, as reccomended by Kitten320

Zero no tsukaima / The Familiar of Zero: Probably my favorite anime. In a world parellell to ours, the world is divided into the social class of Plebian (poor and middle class) and Nobles, families of users of magic. Mages, upon enetering their second year of magic training, summon a familiar, a magical creature unlike any others. Whoever, the "Zero Louise" manages to summon a human boy from our own world(earth), in which both Louise and her human familiar discover both of them will be involved in a great story like no other. (Romance, action, fantasy, comedy, a little sexual humor, but nothing is actually shown)

Shakugan No Shana: If you like Zero no Tsukaim, you'll like this one, and vise versa. Yuji Sakai believes his normal life will continue until one day he finds out he's been killed, but also not,f by magical beings known as Denizens. A world that exists alongside ours, "The Crimson Realm", populated by Crimson Denizens, infuences our world greatly. Yuji finds out he is a torch, a "leftover" of what he was after replaced by a "Flame Haze", a person who fights the evil Denizens. Yuji becomes attached to the girl, whom he names Shana, as he uncovers his true potential as a torch.(Action, a little Romance more towards the second half)

Amagami SS/SS+: Two years ago, Junichi Tachibana was stood up on his first date, on christmas eve. He thinks he's given up on love, until his hopeless days begin to change as he meets 6 girls in his high school. This anime is slightly different, every 4 episodes switches to an alternate timeline thats slightly different from the first, changing his life and who he falls for. It's actually really good! (Romance)

The amibition of Oda Nabuna: Yoshiharu Sagara falls asleep playing one of his favorite video games based on Feudal Japan during the civil war. He wakes up on the battlefield, Toyotomi Hideyoshi on his side, and watches as the great leader dies in front of him. He then meets Oda Nabuna, a female version of Oda Nabunaga, as he finds out this slightely altered Japanese history would become his home. Yoshiharu works with Oda to assist her battles with his great knowledge of history. (action, little romance at the very end)

Sword Art Online: Saved one of the best for last!
A little over a decade in the future, gaming has taken some of it's biggest steps. The Nerve Gear, a headset that connects to your brain through microwaves, enables players to be fully-emerged into a world, being able to taste, touch, hear, and see everything as if they are actually there, but are unaffected in the real world. The greatly anticipated game, Sword Art Online, a 10,000 player Virtual Reality MMORPG is released, and one of the Highest-ranked Beta Testers, Kayaba Akihiko is followed in his adventure. However, players realize the day of release there is no "log out" button, and they learn the creator has entombed them into the game, forbidden to leave until it is beaten. But there's a catch: if you die in game, your real life is ended, too.
It's a creative idea, and one of the only anime I've seen where there's a prominent romance less than halfway through.
HIGHLY RECCOMENDED.
(action, fantasy, romance)

Hope this helped! I hope you enjoy these as much as I did!

Thanks for all these suggestions!

I don't even know where to start yet, but I definitely have a good idea of what to watch now. I really appreciate it!
