Kitsutsuki Tantei-Dokoro (Woodpecker Detective's Office)
Quote:
The novel's story is set in 1909 during Japan's Meiji era, and centers on fictional versions of real-life poet Takuboku Ishikawa (right in picture above) and real-life linguist Kyōsuke Kindaichi, who were acquaintances in real life. In the novel, Takuboku runs a private detective agency to support his family. Both begin to investigate a case of supposed ghost appearances at the Asakusa Jūnikai building, also known as the Ryōunkai. Source https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...-anime/.144888

Nothing, huh?
Well, I enjoyed it. Not a mass-produced model at the very least, with some interesting stylish touches. Also - nice to see Tsuda Kenjirou getting some work at last!!

That was my favorite episode of the three.
I have no idea if anybody besides the main duo (who did) knew each other in real life, but their ages are all about right. Also, even if Ishikawa didn't actually think Kindaichi could have committed murder, he's still an A-hole. If Rampo hadn't solved the case and blown his cover, was he going to let Kindaichi rot in jail?

I disagree with you all.

I wonder if it'd have gone well. Heck, it's a wonder they released Kindaichi at all. Only suspect, accused by his friend who later retracts his statement and admits to lying to the police... I guess his saving grace is that nobody actually cares about a prostitute getting murdered?

Three episodes in, this is a very nearly hilarious piece of nonsense. Despite the absurdity of...
Spoiler for ep 3:
...there is a excellent sense of place, which I suppose the male chauvinism is consistent with, and Akutagawa's cameo was hilarious (Better than anything done in Bungou Stray Dogs by his character or any other). |

I like that this show is different from the "flawless detective" genre, and the characters have real issues even when cases are solved through traditional means because the outcome isn't pretty either way.
