Gachiakuta is awesome and definitely deserves an anime, but I thought it'd happened once the manga had gotten 100+ chapters under its belt.

It will - comfortably - by the time it premieres. It’s already at 11 volumes, that’s plenty.

Aesthetics aside, how good is the source material? Read some of the earlier chapters, but it didn't hook me in as much as I have hoped for.

I like it. It’s not a masterpiece but to me a very solid battle shounen with an interesting premise, likable protagonist, and a definite spark of something special to it.

Graphically amazing. If just going for battle only, this is great.
But the story is not much, I'd even say it fails to properly utilize its setting. It also moves very slowly making you feel the protagonists aren't making much progress.

Started reading this recently and I have to agree here. The best part about this story to me is the setting, but it really feels like the MC is spinning his wheels or rather he keeps getting distracted from his main goal.

Rumors are Tsurumaki Kazuya is directing, which would amp the expectations level in a big way.
