I couldn't find a thread for Kamisama Hajimemashita manga, so I made one.



Summary:

Nanami Momozono was left homeless when her dad disappeared after accumulating a huge amount of debt. Her encounter with a mysterious man, who has a phobia of dogs, left her with not only a shrine as her new home but also a position as an Earth God and the responsibility over a very troublesome fox demon. How will Nanami handle her newfound responsibilities?

Yukiji is actually a demon slayer. I certainly didn't foresee that. And Nanami is volunteering to be Yukiji's scapegoat on the last page. This crazy development is killing me. Most manga readers seem to be debating whether the Yukiji that Tomoe met in the past is really Yukiji or Nanami. I am betting on the latter.

Yup, apparently Yukiji really hates demons because they destroyed her village and killed her family - that's the scene when Nanami was in her body. I totally think that Tomoe fell in love with Nanami first but mistaken her for Yukiji, which eventually led to Yukiji probably falling in love with Tomoe later on. I hear that Yuuta, the little boy who worked for Yukiji knew the real truth. I just wonder if Tomoe will ever know the real truth.

I think she may be a descendent of Yukiji more than her reincarnation. So if she's a descendent, maybe Tomoe falling in love with Nanami will break the curse because in an indirect way he is still with Yukiji, which is the condition of the spell. Although I believe that Tomoe fell in love with Nanami first and mistaken her for Yukiji but it was Yukiji's name that he said when he made that contract with the fallen God.

But, now that I think about it, the problem with Nanami being Yukiji's descendant means that Yukiji has to marry someone, and it obviously wasn't Tomoe. So could it be that maybe Tomoe did know, or nearly knew, the truth when he first met Mikage? Also, I'm sure Mikage knows about this whole thing. He has that sly smile when he found out that Nanami went back to the past again in this current arc.

At first, I thought it was just some shoujo ploy having a crazy Mikage just up and leave for 20 years, but now I think Mikage left the shrine to find Nanami and start this whole thing. If Mikage and Nanami hadn't met in the first place, none of these events would have happened...augh, yeah all that time travel past/present/future events affecting each other, yatta, yatta, yatta...kills my brain.

I agree. Call me crazy, but I think Mikage more or less knows the truth. I mean that dude is the God of Marriage after all. He must have instinctively sense that Tomoe and Nanami are bound by the red thread of fate, but figures that something in the past must change. I won't be surprised if this whole thing is actually engineered by him, from Nanami becoming God, her going back to the past, etc,etc. You can say this "marriage" between Nanami and Mikage is his biggest project as of yet.

I really wish Nanami is NOT connected in any way to Yukiji. I don't want her to be her descendant, or her reincarnation. I want Tomoe to love Nanami for what she is, not for who she is.

Right now, I am just anticipating the moment when Tomoe finds out that the Yukiji he met in the past and the current Nanami are one and the same. That revelation and the priceless face that follows!

I can't answer any of Lady Mua's questions since I've only watched the anime, but I'm wondering something myself: does Mizuki ever develop feelings for someone else besides Nanami, or perhaps just get over her? It kind of stung a few episodes ago whenever Nanami was being a moron and telling the guy who's in love with her about her own unrequited love, and the fact that Mizuki now has to spend all his time around a lovestruck Nanami, and doesn't get all the perks that Tomoe does (ie accompanying Nanami to school), is also pretty harsh. I typically enjoy a good unrequited love story, but this is just... cruel, really. I feel bad for him.

nope, he is very loyal to Nanami. He is still in love with Nanami, but it's the" i like you but i know you don't like me, so i will stay at your side as your friend" type. I think that he already resigns himself to being Nanami's good pal/servant. He could sense Tomoe's feelings for Nanami quite early on, and Nanami makes her feelings explicit in the beginning of the manga itself. Mizuki will flirt with Nanami once in a while, but I think it's just to annoy Tomoe. It's sad that his feelings are not returned, but I don't think he is unhappy about it since he is no longer alone in his abandoned shrine. He has Tomoe and Nanami as his friends (and Kurama as well, to a certain extent)

At least this is a shoujo manga, which means that he will probably be paired up with someone else later down the road; maybe he'll find some youkai girl that can also become Nanami's Familiar, and they can all be one big happy family. I do hope there's more in his future than just a lifetime of being NTR'd.

Popped in to see what was being discussed. I'm reading the Viz releases. My latest one is v11 which puts about a year behind the Japanese release, I reckon. If this is going to mostly be a scanlation based discussion, I guess I'll have to pop out. But I'll stay in as long as I can. (/me spoilerphobic )

It's going to be interesting to see how Nanami and Yukiji are connected, why Nanami also had the Dragon King's eye in her. I've read some summaries of later chapters, beyond what's scanlated right now, so I'll keep mum on it but I will say that I have a new theory. I'll explain when said chapter is released.

I don't know if the mangaka will show Tomoe and Nanami married, they might not, but I do believe that they will become a couple in the end. From what I can understand of the mangaka through the story so far, I don't think she'll have Tomoe become human or Nanami become immortal in the end - as sad as that may be but it just makes their relationship more meaningful, I think. But then again, Mikage may just free Tomoe and make him human so he can be with Nanami in the end. Who knows...shoujo is sometimes difficult to predict in this sense.

I've always had this feeling that

Akura-ou doesn't quite have all his memories after he was reborn as Kirihito. But I could remember it wrong. Anyway, even if Akura-ou didn't lose his memories after his rebirth, he already had a hard time remembering Nanami's name and kept calling her Scarf Woman. After reading c89, I can understand why you took a liking to Akura-ou. Despite his psychotic killing tendencies, he is a likeable character. I'm now interested to see more interactions between him and Nanami.

Read up to current chapter, its a decent if at times rather cliche shojou, overall decent but not amazing
