Long Live Lelouch! Waiting for Tales of the World:RM2 USA release
Before that though, I finished the Tesla piece. *grin*
Spoiler for Holding the line:
In stories, it is always the greatest of battles that are being described. The fight of the hero against the dark lord, the battle to save one being loved, the race I stop a deathtrap that will doom a world. All the while other, from outward appearance slightly minor battles rage in the background alone.
And yet those battles are no less difficult.
Tesla could attest to this.
“Hold the line! Ground squad 13, reinforce squad 4, they’re taking heavy pounding! Air squad 7, I want those type-3 drones taken down! They’re bombing us to pieces here!”
Whatever confirmations came from the squad leaders was drowned out by the whine of drone lasers charging.
[Panzer hindernis!] came the voice of Gungnir as Tesla thrust out her left hand to stop the incoming barrage of several type-2 and a swarm of type-1 drones. The blue barrier stopped all incoming attacks.
“Return fire!”
None of the troops needed to be told that twice. Immediately blasts began to launch in the opposite direction, downing drone after drone. Tesla allowed herself a smile. Vita had done an excellent job training these ground forces. They didn’t so much as flinch at the attacks being launched their way.
‘Of course, Vita must have given them hell ten times worse then this and called it training.’
She turned back to the battle at hand. Several of the drones, mostly type-1’s, were now heading towards a course to the left. Judging by their route it seemed as if they were trying to circumvent their defensive line, but… “Kuso.” Tesla cursed as she realized that the drones were never going around the entire block, but were going to use the trashed buildings to get behind their lines.
“Air squad 5, head to these coordinates and stop those drones at any cost.”
“Yes ma’m!”
Tesla sighed as she turned back to face the battle in front of her. She raised Gungnir and took aim for the more heavily armoured type-2 drones. [Blitzschlag!]
3 lightning charged shots launched from the glaive, the first puncturing one drone head on, causing it to explode. The second and third, though, punctured two drones hovering above two of their own. The shots went straight through them, but instead of exploding the two crashed downwards on top of the other two.
Yet another wave defeated, but the next one would not let them wait for long. Now if only-
“Lieutenant! Up there!”
Tesla heard the cry of the ground force mage and looked up. Her eyes widened as she saw the knight Signum had identified as Zest in the sky. This was not a good timing.
-=Signum, Zest has been spotted. He is heading for the HQ on high altitude.=-
-=Understood, Rein and I will intercept.=-
-=Please do.=-
Tesla gave a small sigh of relief. It was a good thing Zest had not targeted the defensive line. He would have wiped out half the line without even trying.
[Feindtätigkeit detektiert.]
Tesla refocused on the battle ahead. Her eyes narrowed as she noticed an increased amount of type-2 drones heading in their direction. More specifically her direction. This confirmed her suspicion that someone was leading these drones, rather then leave them on autopilot.
“Do not break the line!” She called to the troops as she raised herself and stepped over the barrier.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“I’m taking care of that clutter of type-2’s, Nakajima-san. If we let them approach they’ll overwhelm the troops here.”
“Oi, that is-” the man caught himself before he finished his sentence, but Tesla knew what he was going to say. This was reckless. For the average mage, it was suicidal.
But Tesla was no average mage. Tactician or not, she was Tesla, the Knight of the Sky, one of the five Wolkenritter.
And it was time to remind them of that fact.
She raised herself of the ground and shot towards the group of sphere like drones. “Gungnir!”
[Explosion!]
The blade of Gungnir raised, momentarily revealing a line of cartridges in the shaft before slamming back down with a cloud of steam.
[Gewitterwolke!] the device declared as the blade was charged with blue lightning. Tesla never slowed down as she reached the first drone and sliced clean through it, heading straight for the second which brought its metallic arms to block. Tesla pounded though the defense, landing on the ground and shifting her grip to stab through the drones center, the lightning fried the circuits of the machine, causing it to explode.
Before the smoke had even cleared, the other drones had surrounded her. Tesla glanced around and decided to put the remaining magic of the cartridge to good use. She leaped upwards with such speed that the drones lost her for a moment. By the time they had retargeted her, she had reached the peak of her jump.
“Shippuujinrai!” she called as she fell, no, launched downwards, Gungnir crackling with renewed energy as another cartridge was consumed. Just seconds before she hit the ground, she turned all the energy of the fall to the device, swinging it around in a wide arc. “SHUURAI!” the lightning was released with such an intensity and force, that it sliced clean through 3 drones closest to her, went through 2 behind those and obliterated a score of type-1’s in the rear.
And still the type-2’s kept coming. She had taken out seven with those two attacks, but there were still eight remaining, and she no longer had the element of surprise.
For a moment Tesla wished that Rein was here. An Inazuma Shourai would have been great for tackling these remaining drones.
She shook of the thought; Rein was supporting Signum on a far more important task. She could deal with this herself.
“Haaah!” she charged the nearest drone, slicing in apart horizontally before charging toward the next. Raising the tip of Gungnir above her head she shifted the weight of the device more to the center. As she got closer to the drone she drew back the blade, levelled it horizontally and lashed out with a stab. The drone had brought its metal arms to block a vertical strike and was totally unprepared for the stab which cut clean through its sensors. She turned towards the remaining ones, who raised barriers against the inevitable assault.
“Amai!” Tesla shouted at them as another cartridge exploded from the device. Four large blue spinning balls of lightning appeared [Kugelblitz!] Gungnir intoned as the balls of lightning shot towards the drones. Each of them hit a target, clashing with the barriers for only a moment before breaking through. Not even waiting for the smoke of the explosions to clear, Tesla send the four spheres towards the remaining two. Unfortunately the attack had been drained of too much energy while penetrating the barriers, and the first round harmlessly bounced of the barrier. The second, however, broke through and the last two Type-2 drones joined the fate of their predecessors.
Landing back behind the line she was met with two faces she had not expected.
“Shamal! Zafira! What are you doing here?”
“We’re here to do what we can.” The blue wolf answered.
“I’ve been trying to trace the coordinator of these drones, but I’m having trouble locating her.” Shamal answered.
“Try scanning for a low-grade IS barrier line; she seems to favour those from the amount that have popped up in annoying places.”
Shamal nodded and went back to trying to track the one coordinating these drones.
“I found her!”
“Head out and capture her, we’ll hold the line here. And remember, shoot first, arrest speeches later.” Tesla said.
Shamal and Zafira nodded and jumped of. Genya approached Tesla.
“Will those two be allright?”
“Their opponent is only one sentoukijin. They shouldn’t have to much of a problem against her.”
“How do you know it’s only one?”
“The way the drones moved was matched easily enough, and there was a small lag whenever they changed strategy. Also taking into account the overindulgement at sending the type-2’s at me, it definitely is only one of them.”
“I see…” Genya said. Truth was, he didn’t. “And if you’re wrong?”
“I’m not.”
Before Genya could even begin to argue, Gungnir interrupted.
[Empfanging einen einberufung signal.]
“A summoning signal? Masaka… Yui?”
[positiv.]
Tesla hissed, and glared towards the Cradle. If Yui was trying to summon Gungnir, then that meant there was serious trouble going on.
[Sollte ich gehen?]
“Uhn.”
With a flash of light, the familiar sensation of Gungnir vanished out of Tesla’s reach.
“… protect her well, Gungnir.”
“Was that such a wise choice? We’re still in the middle of a battle ourselves here.”
“Daijoubu, Shamal and Zafira should have cornered the battle coordinator by now. Anytime we could… Ah, there you have it.”
Genya turned to see what Tesla was talking about, but all he saw was the next wave of drones.
“I still don’t see how this helps us.”
Tesla blinked. “What? You don't?” At Genya’s shake of denial she sighed. “Oh well, I’ll show you. Ground units 1 to 5! Surround the drones! Air units 1 to 3! Attack from above, crescent formation!” After giving the orders, she turned back to Genya. “See now?”
Genya shook his head. “I don’t really understand what you’re doing. I can understand surrounding the drones, but what you’re doing is really nothing different from a standard Arc Saber maneuver. They’re not going to fall for that.”
“No, they’re not just going to fall for it. It’ll destroy them completely.” Tesla said. “Watch.”
Genya watched, and as he watched his eyes widened. The drones were stopping their advance and created a circle, the type-2 were in the center, surrounded by type 1’s. “What in the blazes are they doing?”
“They’re doing they only thing they can do, or rather the only thing they’re programmed to do in case of an Arc Saber maneuver.” Tesla explained. “With their coördinator gone, those drones are being ‘led’ by the type-2. Now none of those drones is created for urban warfare, where fire can come from all sides. They’re supposed to advance, and hence they can only fire forward. If you surround them, they’ll go in a defensive formation with the type-1 in front, protecting the now leading type-2’s. This limits their firepower in almost any aspect.”
Genya’s eyes widened in realization. “Then that time-”
Tesla smiled, as if proud of a student that had solved a problem. “Exactly, at the time Gungnir went to Yui, Shamal and Zafira had captured the coordinator, which caused the drones to revert back to standard programming.”
Genya stared at the drones who had now completed their completely useless maneuver and were slowly being mowed down by the troops. He couldn’t help but be amazed at how quickly and sharply the girl had analyzed the situation and turned it into a sure victory.
“But how-”
“You really should get out of your office and play a computer game or two Major.” Tesla said calmly, almost dreamily.
The battle was over in minutes, and the mages prepared for the next wave. The drones A.I. would have manufactured a different strategy, but on their side, none of the mages longer doubted that in the end they would all make it out alive.
Since all the Tesla pieces up to this point were character development (for which I am eternally gratefull to Aaron), I decided to write a little combat piece. Combat suits me better then fluff anyway. Much easier to write.
Apolagies if some of the German seems scrambled. German grammar is a pain in the rear.
Nice
Good to see the grunts actually do something useful as well
I was a bit surprised that Yui borrows Gungir for her ultimate attack though... I didn't notice in Flame's piece before that it happened...
Good stuff all up I'm looking forward to more Tesla pieces (It gives me some idea of what she fights like as well, which will be a plus once I get around to writing the unlimited fight between the Weavers and the Aces/others.

Good to hear , We'll have some nice space battles in the future then to read

Spoiler for Weee Wall O' Text! Oh and Spacebattle!:
Vergesso Orbit:
=========================
“Real space transition completed with no problems we’re in out projected position in high orbit over of the planet Vergesso.”The helmsmen reported after moment checking his readouts following the ship exit from dimensional and into normal space.
“As expected we’ve confirmed jammers are preventing any beaming within about 100 miles of the base a shield is also covering the installation and we’ve ID multiple AA weapons as well.”
“Right then we’ll proceed with a pod insertion as planned. Helm move us into position execute a drop pod release with the target DZ being as close to the northern perimeter of the bases estimated air defense umbrella as possible.” Miranda ordered briskly.
“Aye Ma’am course set ETA at DP is 2 minutes 30 seconds!”
===========================
“I hate these things, I feel like fucking spam in a can.” Felix grumbled as she adjusted the straps pinning him to the seat of his own personal coffin… oh wait sorry “Single Man Orbital Insertion Pod”.
“Well this is the only way down we’re gonna be getting down so quit bitching.”
“I’m a soldier it’s my god given right to bitch.” Felix grumbled in response.
“Acutally you’re technically a private contractor.”
“Shut up.” Felix mumbled as the door to his pod locked and sealed.
============================
“Captain I have multiple dimensional breeches forming both fore and aft two groups of 3 destroys and one cruiser class contact each! The groups are closing in from both sides at high speed, we’ve been bracketed!” A sensor operator reported franticly.
“Energy spikes from the surface!” Another operator shouted moments before as the entire ship rocked hard throwing several people from chairs and promoting everyone else to fasten the restraints on theirs.
“Abort the ground team’s launch stand by to jump out of here!” Miranda barked urgently.
“Too late!”
===================
A buzzer sounded as red strobe lights lit up the pod bay and decompression warnings began blaring. The lights then cycled to yellow as the hatches below each pod slid open and the bay was engulfed in hurricane force winds for several seconds as the atmosphere vacated it. Finally once the bay was in complete vacuum the pods began to fail down their launch chutes on a set of electrified rails built into the walls that accelerated them by a gut wrenching 30 Gs in the short distance before they cleared the ships belly and entered free fall and continued accelerating toward the planet below as gravity took hold of them, and into… a hail storm of weapons fire?!
.
“What the fuck?! I thought this was going to be an unopposed drop!”
==================
“Move us out of those surfaces guns engagement zone, and get me a damage report!”
“Our shields held the attack and the surface positions which don’t appear to be much besides warship batteries stripped and mounted around the base, but under that shield they’ll be virtually immune to counter fire! Hold on I have missile launches coming from the surface now too!”
“Commence defensive fires!”
“Targets sorted and prioritized point defense fire outbound, projected interception rate will be 96%.” Cortana the ships AI announced moments later as she seized control of every downward facing weapon on the ship and opened fire filling space below them with a cloud of armor piercing darts, exploding shot, and beam fire.
The holographic displays built into the walls of the bridge to afford an almost 360 view around the ship allowed the crew to observe this hail of weapons fire streaking downward toward the planet, small explosions below marking the locations where the fire found its mark against the missiles climbing toward them.
With one problem being dealt with Miranda now turned her attention to another. “What about the drop pods?!”
“They’re descending toward the planet on target, but the jamming from enemy ships is preventing us from getting a lock good enough to try and teleport them back.” Her XO Dave Kleinman reported from his seat just below, forward, and to the left of hers.
“Launch all fighters! Their first priority is to cover those pods until re-entry we’ll have to find some way to retrieve them later. Assuming we can fight off these ships that is...”
===============
“Dagger Squadron is cleared for launch!”
“Launching!”
The 12 ships of the squadron pushed their throttles to full and hurled themselves into space with the assistance of the liner catapults built into launch tubes. Inertial dampers protecting the pilots from the massive acceleration being imparted to there ships.
“Dagger is away commence launch prep for Stiletto squadron and make it fast!”
===============
“Alright boys and girls form up
===============
Between the heavy weapons fire and missiles streaking up from the surface, the Cortana’s defensive fire heading back down, and now the enemy ship’s fire starting to come from two more directions, plus the fighters that where now swirling around all about them this was starting to look like a distinctly suicidal mission for the ground team. The only thing protecting them was there small size and fairly good ECM system, and nothing else. If any of the masses of fire being thrown around up here so much as nicked the pod they were finished and since they were in freefall they couldn’t even make evasive maneuvers. All they could do was plummet through it and count on the fact space was big and they were small targets.
“Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them…” Pixy remarked whimsically as they streaked through the firestorm toward the upper atmosphere.
“You know how that poem ends right?” Daniel remarked blandly sounding a tad woozy.
“No spoilers!!!” Mitchell replied with mock fervor.
“You’re all insane.” Felix muttered as they hit they finally upper atmosphere and the ionized air that engulfed the pods cut off their communications systems.
===========================
“I don’t know how but all the pods have made it to reentry!” The sensor officer reported disbelieving.
“First piece of good luck we’ve had all day.” Miranda remarked relived they’d all made, but another large shudder reverberating though the decking under her feet informed her they were hardly out of the woods. Her own gunners quickly returned fire with a massed salvo from the forward HDEW mounts which splattered over one of the destroyers shield bubble illuminating a large portion of it, but failing to achieve any significant penetration.
“These ships are unusually tough for pirate vessels.” Kleinman remarked as he looked over several holo-displays.
“I noticed.” Miranda agreed with a frown.
“You’re right data collected so far based on our weapons interaction with their shields indicates that the enemy ships shielding is probably at least comparable to that mounted a TSAB naval vessel of their class, and that is indeed highly irregular from my own experience.” Cortana agreed as she made a quick scan of the relevant data. “I’d check records for similar incidents, but I’m somewhat preoccupied.” She added annoyed as she continued to devote the vast majority of her processing power to running the ships PD grid, calculating firing solutions for some of the heavier weapons, and plotting and attempting to predict any movement patterns.
Another beam salvo from the forward guns pounded the target enemy ship as it slashed past from bow to stern on the ships port side. Despite its technically advanced shields it was still about a 20th of its opponents mass and it finally showed. The shields absorbed most of the second or so long beam’s but faltered toward the end allowing several of the beams to rake parts of the hull. A large area of the targets armor glowed a dull red around the impact areas but damage appeared minimal and it was quickly returning to normal as it shot past the Cortana stern and began turning back in for another pass.
“Good armor too.” Miranda remarked dryly.
“Quite, it appears to have very effective energy redistribution properties.”
“Let’s see how it stand up to shock, direct railgun positions 1 through 20 to fire on that ship AP rounds!”
“Aye, Ma’am!”
A third of the ships rapid fire railguns swung to bear and unleashed a storm of solid cored armor piercing rounds toward the enemy ship. Huge numbers of the shells missed all over, but huge numbers also hit peppering the armor all across the ship. The plating was holding up the barrage to a point but everything outside the citadel sensors, weapons mounts, maneuvering thrusters was being torn to shreds and even the armor itself was beginning to show signs of damage. The shields over the side facing the barrage suddenly reappeared and stopped the carnage, for the moment, but probably only at the expense of having had power diverted to them from other system. Even so they ship was moving slower and several of its weapons positions had been shot away.
“Kinetic energy was much more effective enemy movement and return fire have been severely degraded.”
“Let’s give it the finisher, main RGs 1 and 2!”
“Acquiring firing solution, I have the Helm.” The weapons officer reported as he seized control of the entire ship to bring the two fixed weapons to bear. The ship’s nose swung out to port to track the target which was clearly trying to open the range and disengage for the moment. Cortana’s bow rapidly crossed over the target as she pivoted on her center of gravity while holding her coruse before finally the guns fell into position ahead of the targets projected coruse and made a few fine adjustments before… The entire ship rocked like it had been stuck as both of the guns accelerated 5 tons of metal down their 400 meter barrels and up to a noticeable fraction of C.
The rounds resembled supersized rifle tracers as the glowing hot shots screamed through space so fast that to the human eye they appeared to stretch to several hundred meters in length. One shot went long missing completely and streaking off into space harmless, but the other nailed the target center of mass. The impact with the enemy ship was devastating the shot didn’t “punch through it” as nothing moving that fast “punches” through anything; instead the moment they encountered something solid, the weakened shields in this case, the rounds potential energy became actual energy of a magnitude so great that it instantly flash heated the entire slug to vaporization and released that energy as a burst of directed plasma with nuclear level energy. The flash was similar to such a detonation as well and obscured the entire enemy ship for several moments.
As it cleared the ship continued to impress as it was still in one piece and vaguely recognizable, but nearly its facing side had been torn open to space its armor blasted away by the incredible force of the impact. It spun about its long axis from the force of the blow spewing smoke and atmosphere and dead in space.
“One down a half dozen more to go.” Miranda grumbled as the sensor operators yelled about another wave of missiles.
=========================
“Passing through 20,000 feet stand by for pod separation.” The monotone voice of the drop pods computer announced as the end of the descent neared.
“The situation has changed but the plan is the same once we’re in the air spilt up into your assigned fire teams and proceed to the base, the only plan is that I want anything that looks like it can fire into orbit blown to bits on the way in!” Mitchell barked over the comm as the drop troops screamed into the lower atmosphere
“Separation in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.” Explosive bolts in the walls of the pod fired and all four of them blew away as the seat detached from the former floor of and then the restraints on it themselves released dropping the occupant into free fall sans any vehicle.
Mitchell grunted and looked around quickly to get his bearings again after being slammed by the wind blast on exit. Once that was done he and the rest of the newly freed mages quickly angled themselves straight at the ground and continued accelerating in diving for the cover of the terrain. The pulled out and tree top level and raced along at that height for several miles before they’d come to a small valley that would carry them most of the way to the base while keeping them out of sight of its defenses.
“Keep you head’s on a swivel this base is more heavily defend then anticipated who knows what else might be down here.” Cipher advised the entire group as he banked hard left and dropped into the canyon at the formations head. The entire group was forced to clump together more in the somewhat narrow valley area but they where still separated by dozens of meters.
“Heads up 12 O’clock!” Someone shouted over the radio and all heads quickly snapped up to see dozens of missile trails arcing skywards over the horizon and back down in there general direction.
“I thought they couldn’t see us?!” Michael shouted surprised.
“They can’t they’re probably firing them on inertial guidance based on crude guesses as to our position hoping some will get close enough to lock us up with the missiles own sensors.” Sam theorized.
“They might also be hoping to flush us higher so they can take aimed shots.” Cipher added postulating on the tactical reasons for the move.
“My scans show the warheads are conventional as long as they don’t hit us directly we should be fine.” Sam added as she reviewed several scans she’d just taken of the missiles. As if to confirm that the large numbers of the missiles began to land in the surrounding terrain exploding in large, but hardly huge, blasts most of which were missing the entire group by several kilometers.
Several of the bombardment mages, at Sam direction, had to blast a few that looked like they might be actively acquiring from the air at long range, but progress was still swift and the continuing ill aimed barrage was more a nuisance then a threat. In all likelihood the enemy was fifing simply to feel like they were doing something and because they had the ammo for it.
The real test wasn’t far off now though. “Once we crest that ridge ahead we’ll be in sight of the base, but the defenses will be considerably more effective. Keep mobile and don’t bunch up or stop for anything until you get inside the perimeter!” Cipher cautioned as they neared the point where the real fight would start. Not because he thought they needed to be told, everyone present knew their jobs, but more as simple reminder not to do anything stupid.
“Game time let’s do it!” Mitchell hooted as he led the units charge up and over the ridge line at full speed.
==========================
The entire ship shuddered violently under another heavy impact to the ships portside, luckily the SGC had long ago perfected seatbelts and no one was thrown about. “Damage report!” Miranda barked.
“Minor shield bleed through along the port side! The armor absorbed the heat well enough for now, but the temperature on the outer plates is rising in multiple sectors!” The man in charge of the damage control panel reported quickly.
“Weps I need those missiles tubes reloaded!” Miranda yelled at another operator.
“Reloading a couple dozen nuclear missiles isn’t something you can rush Ma’am!”
“Another wave of bombers approaching from starboard!”
“All point defense systems are running hot just keeping the missiles and already engaged fighters off us.” Cortana reported as the ship lurched again under another violent impact. “Or trying too” She amended bitterly. “In any case I don’t think I’ll be able to run them off.”
“Sheppard!”
“Way ahead of you Ma’am we’ve already got our approach vector they won’t get within 5,000 clicks of you.”
========================
“Three, Four pull in.” Sheppard ordered to the second pair in his squadron his number two was already right off his port wing.
“We’ve got enemy fighters moving into blocking positions in front of the bombers.”
“Of coruse they are! That’s why we’re going to plow the road of them for five and six!” He replied confidently as the newly formed four ship screamed toward the opposing interceptors head on. Though the enemy warships had proved somewhat comparable to the Cortana their fighter craft were proving markedly inferior. Cold comfort though since they still had about 200 of them against about 36 of his, but he had some minor edges he was playing defense around his mothership whose defensive fire was considerably equaling the odds plus a fair number of the enemy fighters where hanging back screening their own ships and not actively engaging his men, that menat he was really only dealing with about 100 enemy craft at this point… so only about 3 to 1 odds instead of 5½ to 1.
He locked up two of the enemy fighters ahead of him and cut loose with his last pair of long range missiles. The rest his flight quickly followed suit utilizing their data-links to assure no one fired on the same target. The incoming missiles forced the enemy craft ahead to break into defensive maneuvers and allowed his own fighters to bore in largely unopposed for a close range engagement with their remaining weapons. The third pair of Hercs brought up the rear some distance behind them packing 5 LRMs between them and holding fire until the enemy fighters were cleared away to make sure the weapons would get through to the bombers.
========================
The battle had basiclly degraded into a general engagement with the enemy destroyers were taking turns streaking in to attack the Cortana at close range before using their superior speed to zip away behind the planet and out of range of her guns to recycle their shields and reload their weapons for another pass. The pair of cruisers meanwhile was taking a more direct approach constantly hammering the larger ship at long range and with missiles and beam weapons while using their superior speed to deny her the ability to use heaviest, but shortest ranged weapons. Further the battleship was being forced to use most of her DP mounts in a desperate attempt to hold off the never ending stream of missiles approaching the ship from nearly all angles, including the surface, meaning she was reduced to firing back with only her HDEW mounts and occasional missile salvos of her own.
She disabled one DD and damaged several others, but knocking them out in the short time they engaged before zipping away while also trying to keep the missiles and fighters at bay was proving almost impossible. If something didn’t give soon she was going to have to jump away and leave the team on the planet hanging, like it or not a battleship and it’s 500+ crew was worth a hell of allot more then a platoon sized special forces team.
“Captain I’ve got an idea how we might be able to even the odds a bit, but I’m going to need some help!” That was the voice commander Beckett leading the ships bomber squadron.
“I’m open to suggestions.” Miranda replied earnestly.
“I’ve been watching the enemies movement patterns and noticed something…” He began quickly.
==========================
The enemy destroyer came barreling back around the planet and into the battle zone again as the last several paces it moved just near enough the crippled friendly ship to beam off a few of her surviving crew. Several enemy torpedoes streaked out to meet them cracking open to send a swarm of sub-munitions and decoys their way but the gunners where quickly to begin blasting them from the sky. Sevreal seemed to explode prematurely, odd, but he thought little of it as he pressed on his strafing run zooming past the damaged destroyer and taking off 5 of her crew along the way. The enemy battleship was continuing to pull back around the planet, but couldn’t retreat much further without exposing itself to surface fire again.
Despite the losses all seemed to be going according to plan thus far and in fact the loss of at least two of the destroyers had been planned for and deemed acceptable. Behind them the flag ship cruisers moved up pursing the retreating battleship to keep it in range but not venturing so close that the beast might be able to pounce upon it and strike back severely.
=======================
Beckett watched the enemy destroyer fly past him oblivious, so far so good. He checked his passive sensors and confirmed that the cruiser was continuing to pursue the Cortana and was moving to pass quite close to the DD probably intending to take aboard more survivors since she happened to be passing through. That fact, the certain predictably in their movement that entailed, and the availability of a useful piece of cover in the form of the shattered hull of the DD was what he’d seen and what had made this plan possible.
The cruiser continued to close and as it got with effective range his booted up his ships shield scanners which quickly began analyzing the enemies defensive barriers for weakness based on their interaction with the Cortana’s fire impacting them. After almost a minute the computer reported it had found a solution and uploaded the data to shied modulators on the heavy weight torpedoes slung under the bombers hull.
Waiting about a half a minute longer for the enemy ship to get into optimal position he then gave the command. “Execute!” He barked reactivating his radio and slamming his throttle to afterburner as he and three other bombers tore out of cover burning hard for the enemy ship. They’d need to get very close for the torpedoes to have a chance of impacting… Aiding them was the fact defensive fire was acutally totally absent for several seconds as the ships gunners were clearly surprised to suddenly have bombers approaching from astern. Even when it began it was poorly aimed and most of it missed badly, but it was getting better.
“Dammit let’s dump these things and burn out already!”
“Hold fire until I say so!” Beckett hissed as he continued to bore in the ship filled a significant portion of the canopy now and his craft lurched as several defensive bursts found their mark dropping his shields significantly he quickly shifted power from his energy weapons and aft shields into the front section as the defensive barrage continued to intensify now lighting up space all around him like a laser light show from hell.
Luckily as planned a large missile salvo from the Cortana was also racing in from the front of the ship drawing a considerable amount of the fire away from the bombers. That was about the only thing keeping this run from being total suicide. It was still nearly so though and finally one of the target’s guns drew blood as a beam slammed into the number 3 bombers whose shields flared and failed as the beam blasted through the fighters right engine nacelle from bow to stern gutting it and sending flames spewing everywhere as the fight began to tumble wildly due to the now massively uneven thrust The pilot cut loss his torpedoes seconds before he ejected from the totally out of control and burning ships which was rapidly disintegrating around him.
Beckett made a rapid mental note of his direction of drift which seemed to be away from the planet which meant that if his suit was intact and he didn’t blunder two near any of detonations occurring in the area he’d have 6 hours of air and a rescue might be possible. The small radio in his flight suit would never cut through the jamming that filled the battlefield though so it was impossible to confirm his exact state.
They had other concerns now though not wanting to let the 4 torpedoes in the air go to waste Beckett issued the command for the reaming bombers to drop theirs and turn away. They all did so quite happily and moved to get the hell out a dodge. The 16 torpedoes raced toward the enemy ship who meet them with a massive barrage of defensive fire despite the short range of launch only two of them penetrated the blinding screen of beam and pulse fire. Their shield modulators functioned as intended though and the torpedoes gilded through the enemies defensive screens and stuck the full on.
Still despite their size the torpedoes were mostly fuel and the modulator the warhead proper was depressingly diminutive. The warheads exploded cleanly but appeared to do only minor damage to ships aft section they breeched the hull but the damage did not look all that devastating, but then the ships port side engine nozzle flickered and died, in one feel swoop the ship had lost a third of it’s thrust and even more maneuverability and had gone from slightly faster then to slighter slower then the Cortana; which was now charging toward it head on at full military power with both its Arc-en-ciel-Mand heavy railguns charging…
=========================
“Is it always like this?!” Michael asked franticly as he cowered behind his barrier while fire rained down all around his and Daniels position inside a half bombed out barracks surrounded by enemy troops and mages.
“No.” Daniel replied flatly as he fired wildly up over his cover with one hand at the small army of enemy troops and Michael seemed to perk up ever so slightly. “It’s usually worse.” And deflated right back down. Mitchell had merely ordered them and a small fire team to “block that position for a while” while they moved into the under ground sections of the base right before an avalanche of enemy troops hit them.
The attack on the base had gone about as well as expected that is to say totally FUBAR. Just like the enemy space fleet was bigger then expected so was the ground force and several of the mages in it were proving to be some serious hitters that where tying up most of the assault forces best troops in combat leaving the weaker defensive and support troops to try and deal with the small army of lesser mages and normal soldiers swarming over the base.
The situation was starting to become pretty desperate and Daniel was considering possible escape routes when a large section of the enemy positions exploded rather spectacularly in huge dark blue detonation scattering the surviving troops. Cipher zoomed past a second later, but he was being closely pursued by another enemy mage so it was sadly just a fly-by and not actual reinforcements. Still the effect had been pretty devastating and the enemy attack was much less fierce now; they’d be able to hold out for a little while longer it seemed.
=======================
“Oh this isn’t good.” Sam remarked as she worked at a console in one of the security stations inside the base.
“Lots of stuff isn’t good, specifics please.” Mitchell replied gamely.
“The smaller guns around the base are just the tip of the iceberg they’ve got what I’m going to steal a line from General O’Neil and tentatively class as a “Big honkin beam cannon” built into and concealed the hills this base is built under. It’s got a pretty limited firing arc, but it’s huge and I think the enemy ships are herding the Cortana into it.”
“Yeah that doesn’t sound very good at all…” Mitchell agreed.
“What can be done to disable this weapon?” Teal’c asked getting straight to the point.
“Cutting the power feeds from the reactor to the cannon should prevent it from firing…”
“But, I sense a but coming?”
“But it’s at the bottom of the base past a small army of guards, automated defenses, and who knows what else.”
“Well that’s not so bad…”
“Also the reactor is of a highly unstable design and trying to damage it without setting it off like a bomb maybe problematic; we can’t just blow it up I’ll have to shut it down properly and only THEN can we destroy the feeds.”
“Okay… that’s kind of a downer how long will that take?” Mitchell asked tentatively.
“That’s another issue it’s hard to say until I start…. it could be 2 minutes it could be 2 hours.” She replied biting her lower lip.
“Well I don’t think the later is going to work, but we don’t have many other options so let’s just cross our fingers and do this.”
I should probably be writing my paper due next week instead of 5,000 word fan fics, but this is so much more fun!
Very Very NICE Work!!! WELL DONE!!!
I have to say that their method of dropping troops onto the surface is intereasting indeed... I can't say that my OC's will ever be inserted in that fashion.... I think they'll prefer the trusty teleporter.... unless they are for whatever reason onboard one of your ships...
Nicely detailed battle overall
I'll look forward to more of your fics

With the RF6 HQ as good as new, they move back in.
Koji, Maren and Yui decide to stay until the Forwards graduate.

Complete nakedness is overated anyway. Now, having clothing that reveals the edges, making you want to crane your neck to see the real deal but denying you just that, that is true fanservice.
By the way, Keroko sleeps in underwear and a T-shirt.
Thought some might wanted to know.

Deshou? Now replace art with games and you have Tesla's way of completely analysing her oponents.

Neutral over here, and I am more then rational enough to see that NXF does not make a good anime.

Good stuff all up I'm looking forward to more Tesla pieces (It gives me some idea of what she fights like as well, which will be a plus once I get around to writing the unlimited fight between the Weavers and the Aces/others.
The idea of Yui summoning Tesla's Gungnir as oposed to a 'second' Gungnir popped into my head the moment I read it, and it sort of stuck.

If you ask my yuri opinion...
SxF/NxV >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NxF
I can see the charming chemistry at least for the Wolkie/Ace pair both in how they interact, and their contrast yet connective charm, but NxF? Honestly, in all shapes and form, it's so~~~ boring.

I like that kind of fanservice as well. Teasing with the right proportion of skin and cloth is much much more appealing to the eyes

Don't think every enemy plays video games though
Though the idea of Tesla fighting an enemy that relies solely on video games is an unusual idea...

The troublesome one would be Erio, Dream.T, LoweGear, Saint X... You four would have to duke it out, but each of you will only have space for ONE numbers
A finally check, is this everyone's selection?
Uno - Nightengale
Due - Chaos2Frozen, asaqe
Tres - Nightengale
Quattro - USB500
Cinque - Erio, Dream.T
Sein - Erio, haiz, LoweGear
Sette - asaqe
Otto - Dream.T, Saint X
Nove - USB500
Dieci - Saint X, LoweGear
Wendi - Erio, Dream.T, LoweGear

I don’t like the idea of the unstoppable teleporter it’s too cheesy for my tastes and opens up all sorts of nonsense. The first and biggest thing that springs to mind:
“If you can beam yourself up and down why can’t you just beam the enemy into a shielded cargo hold on your ship, or one full of knock out gas, or space if you just want to kill them?”
To avoid this I tend to consider them a somewhat finicky and easily confused system, nice to have, but don’t count on it when you REALLY need it. If you think about the level of detail in scanning that most be required to lock onto and beam something must be crazy high so ANY jamming should render it almost suicidal to use (You might appear inside a tree or it might only teleport half your leg or something). Going off that it ought to be possible to render a teleporter useless with certain types of even fairly simple jamming so you’d need an alterative to get a small group of troops on the ground in a hurry.
Plus Drop Troops are fucking cool.
As for the other stuff I'm just glad I brought some mild entertainment to me readers and shall endeavor to maintain my edge as best I can.

I don't think it's that good, all I really do it visual scenes in my head and then try to translate it to text, since I can't draw for crap that's about the best I can do at the moment.
Allot of heavy action roleplaying helped too, the more detailed the better as it eliminates confusion of what you're guy is doing for other chars.

So pretty much what I’m wearing right now as I type in my room, when I should be fucking sleeping.
