strong protagonists

I'm looking for an anime or manga with a male and female lead pairing that contains action/fight scenes although both are able to fend for themselves, as in not one does the fightning while the other is a weakling that can't do anything. They can either be on the same sides or oppose to each other.

Example : anime :

-Kaze no Stigma : both male and female lead have a certain amount of strentgh to fight on their own.

-Zero no Tsukaima : Kinda, Louise can't do much though.

-Fate stay night : Around the end, Shirou was able to put up a fight.

-Inukami!

manga :

-Shingetsutan Tsukihime
-Superior
-Ga-Rei

Thanks in advance

Edit: I forgot to mention, if it's an anime, I'd prefer something withing the past 5 years or so, mainly for the animation quality.

Hm, don't overlook Cardcaptor Sakura, since it's not a kiddie show. It's one of my favorites and it fits your criteria well.

Others might be Chrno Crusade, Eureka Seven, and Romeo x Juliet.

Full Metal Panic - sousuke/chidori

Baccano - there are many main characters and most of them (both male and female) are strong

I've already seen Code Geass, Erementar Gerard, D Gray-Man, Inuyasha(kinda dropped it a long time ago, it just kept on dragging :l ) and started Hatenkou Yuugi. I'll check the other suggestions though, I've seen some of them quite a few times but never got the chance to start watching them. Thanks
