I had really good success with get-flash-videos when I wanted to download the AMC TV copies of the original Prisoner series. Commercial flash videos use the Brightcove system to make it more difficult to capture them, but get-flash-videos downloads them anyway.
I know mplayer plays Flash so I'd guess programs that use ffmpeg or mencoder as their encoding engine should work. Handbrake, maybe?

For just downloading YouTube video's there are tons of sites out there that could help you, such as keepvid.com. But there are dozens more, just Google it.

I'd rather recommend to try a software which both downloads youtube videos and converts the videos into the formats you want. For this I use Tunebite, downloads tons of videos from youtube and other music web sites and also converts the files in which format I want.
There is also a free version which allows you to get off music and videos from internet and converts them, I'm using the full version because I needed to have full access at its features, this means I can download also movies with it even capture hulu. I think it's much efficient to have just a soft which can do all of those and what I like most is that the quality of the files is very good. |
