Yourichi could defeat simply because she is ranked higher than him. Why did Yourich become a captain, but just because she could beat him doesn't exactly mean Ichigo couldn't learn bankai at the time

VS discussions are not suitable for the Q&A since they are subjective to say the least. Yoruichi had no reason to fight Byakuya at the time, since everyone was at a wartime release alert status, and we've never really seen her get serious. Plus we don't know if Byakuya would have given her a chance to do so, considering the situation.

If Byakuya had been defeated by Yoruichi, that reason for advancement wouldn't have existed, and Ichigo likely wouldn't have achieved bankai within the 3 days, leading to him to need to go with the long, drawn-out route to power. Last edited by dragonmeister; 2010-09-05 at 14:06. |

Why don't the captains that serve as the heads of other sub-divisions have clear successors? There is a definite need for the Omnitsukido, healing division and research division, yet none of their leaders have anyone to take over from them should they die in battle. Nemu would fail should her "Mayuri-sama" conk it, and Soifon obviously doesn't trust Omaeda to succeed her.
On another note, what happened to the Kido Corps? In the fight against Aizen, Soul Society should have been pooling all of their resources and using their strongest fighters to take on the traitors (and an unknown number of arrancar), yet they've failed to mobilize their best users of an entire branch of the Shinigami fighting arts. |

^ Oomaeda is clearly a VC, should Soifon perish he will be the one taking the captain's exam. Mayuri is practically soloing, since Nemu is his, but she'd still be a candidate for the position. Should she fail, there's over 15 more seated shinigami to give it a shot.

Well, the Gotei 13 are a bit shoddy when it comes to this.
The Kido Corps doesn't have a clear captain, although in Pendulum they did say that it's rare for the Kido Corps Captain to appear in the open. But, considering that after all this time, they failed to replace the three traitor captains, I'd say Kido Corps is still without a captain, or perhaps the organization was disbanded altogether.

There's no real answer for that yet, but there is this thread.

How powerful is Sogyo no Kotowari? I know Ukitake probably can't fire back solid objects, and he definitely can return purely energy-based attacks, but can he fire back elemental/ semi-energy attacks? Could Barragan, if somehow fighting Ukitake, find himself with a faceful of Respira? Could Ukitake attack Yamamoto with his own fire?
