Episode 24. Lol. Phenotype Stereotype to the max!
Overall, I'd give the series a 6/10. It had a lot of potential but it focused far too much on the An-chan love and I felt the pacing each episode was quite slow.

I disagree. The former convicts trying to blend in and reclaim their lives in a post war Japan, against all odds, is more original and appealing to me than the cliché - although still really good - prison breakish 1st half.
It's a shame that the anime needs to end this soon though. Soldier, for instance, barely got any focus yet. Hopefully we'll get a 2nd season to finish the adaptation properly. |

Now in contrast to the first part, which actually featured Sakuragi while he was alive, the second half is simply...vegetarian in comparison. I thought that it was great to see the prison dynamic and how everyone got together to kick ass even though they did suffer real defeats. This was the first half that had me constantly wondering "whose going to die now?" that the second didn't. |

I just finished the last episode and this was one of the best series of the past two seasons for me 2 things that pissed me off are 1. Soldier was the only character that didn't get hardly any screentime and 2. Mad House had the perfect chance to animate the entire series since the manga ended in February and they didn't.
Well time for me to go on wiki and look up spoilers for the rest of the series cause if what Milfeulle9001 says is true then we will never get a chance to see the rest of the manga animated. This is kinda saddening since most manga are still ongoing by the time the anime finishes its run its sort of rare that a manga is complete before it gets an anime adaption.

Finally got around to finishing this and man,QFT. The final arc about Turtle and family was especially heartwarming, especially considering all the crap the guys have been through to get to this stage. It's like watching a tree getting tossed around and shitted on by a storm, but in the end coming out alive and matured by adversary. It's also cool to see that they're no longer by themselves anymore either, as they've found two new "family members" and a bunch of new friends (kind people are still alive afterall!).
A shame Soldier's development was completely left out though.

the series was a 10/10...until the prison arc ended. after that point it got too cheesy/not as epic.
still a 9/10 in my book. the first arc was AMAZING to say the least. manly tears were shed, was on the edge of my seat entire time, marathoned them all without hesitation... the dual antagonists in the warden/head officer - incredible. they really did an awesome job in making you hate them. very intense... |
