And well people are making a big deal about that scene because it happens right after Ranka herself says "Sheryl will wake up when Alto comes back" that kind of thing is called a hint.

If it had happened "right after," then you'd have a point...but it doesn't. She says it (and it's more like, "I'd like to think Sheryl will wake up when Alto comes back." It's just Ranka expressing her hope, not prophesying the future), then she walks to Alto's crashed YF-29 and puts flowers on it (there are quite a few already there). She stops, the music starts. The camera cuts to Sheryl in the coma. Roll credits.

Seriously, I don't know what everyone here is picturing in his or her head, but I'm sure it doesn't look much like the actual movie.

Was initially glad that my major complaints about the TV series were resolved...but looking back now, I'm not quite sure what to think because my annoyance at Alto's indecision in the series was mostly because I thought Michel's death should have taught him to be more decisive...

I'm kinda glad I read the 'it'd be good to watch Zero before seeing the movie', or I might really have raged at that ending. Not that I rewatched Zero, but I was expecting something like what we got. As it stands, I think I'm reacting like Ranka did. Or to put it a different way, given the choice, I choose to believe that Alto does come back eventually.

Anything else I might say will have to wait til I'm able to catch up on this thread. Some of the stuff in the movie pamphlet was interesting - but I dare say that's all be translated already, right?

Anyways, back again in a few more days ^^

As you may have figured out I have not watched the movie, so I'm sorry about that mistake , I have only read some spoilers but then again my point is that they put that little scene for a purpose.

If not, why not ending the movie with Ranka putting the flowers on the YF-29? that along with what Kawamori told Nakamura "the happy parts are all up to the audience's imagination" tells me that most likely he didn't want to show one definitive vision or outcome but to let people interpret their own.

The reason I replied to your post is because after reading it and some other things you posted it seems as if you are angry or annoyed that people are interpreting things different or giving more importance to one or other scene and I didn't understand why, but anyway to each their own.

I'm not angry...but yeah, I'm a little annoyed. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems like a lot of people here are trying to rewrite a movie they haven't even seen yet. And we all know how, for example, talk of "They should add a scene onto the Blu-Ray" gets turned into rumors that it's happening, which then turns into unwarranted disappointment with the final product (cf. the people who thought the second movie would be a sequel to the SERIES, not the first movie).

And really, the final scenes aren't as dramatically full of hints as everyone's making them out to be...someone's exaggerating, that's for sure.

Quite honestly, I can't tell. But I don't think so. She gets pretty hacked up about halfway through the movie, and then just kind of lies around being and armless, legless torso for most of the rest of the movie.

Seriously, it's great. Alto's dressed like goth loli maid (purple lipstick included) with the same jets under his skirt that Sheryl had in the first movie. Sheryl's been in her jail cell writing the words to "Sayonara no Tsubasa." On the walls. In blood. Alto breaks in and rescues her.

Meanwhile, "Ranka Lee and Lovely Bomber" are performing, and Michael, dressed as Basara, starts taking out guards with a dart gun hidden in his guitar neck.

It's incredible.

is how Kawamori just goes from one ship to the other without showing his true aim. Honestly, the TV series was more bent towards AruSherri and then the movie (more in the second from what I understand in the summaries) moves towards AruRan; then he just immediately slaps (not literally) her away and says he loves Sheryl. A decision like that in a split second doesn't make sense to me.

I liked villain Grace to be honest. I guess they are trying to make her Ozma's foil as Sheryl's big sister figure to Ranka's big brother figure.

Macross is a triangle and, due to that, there could have been a chance to "win". Although I think it was quite obvious in the beginning it was Sheryl.

She's the First Girl Alto met (before stumbling upon Ranka), even if it was a brief, hostile encounter.

Misa was the first girl, so was Sara.

Movie wise, they 'upped' the tension by seemly having Ranka as the first girl, only to show that NO, IT WAS SHERYL YEARS AGO in the second movie. A lot of mangaka and authors guessed it (I wonder if Kawamori told them).

FROM what I've read, there're some factions of Galaxy (maybe?), Leon and some Vajra (not all! As some save Ozma and Sheryl? Ai kun?). It feels realistic if some Vajra are indeed bad guys, than all being misunderstood, IMO (like happened with all the former enemies mankind stumbled with). Don't take my word for granted, just what I've discerned.

There'll be a few changes like happened in DYRL...

Yeah I agree, rumors and misinformation are really bad (just see the whole Shaloom fiasco ) and yes sometimes even I have needed to clarify some rumors to people like the one you mention about the second movie being a sequel to the series.

On the other hand, if it wasn't fo the spoilers we wouldn't have something to discuss in this thread.
Anyway the best thing to do is wait to see the movie ourselves (hoping that it doesn't take too long for the DVD/BD) and then start with the speculations and interpretations.

In the first movie, I felt Alto was blatantly attracted to Sheryl, struggling with his feelings and searching to understand hers, feeling like crap for hurting her. While his scenes with Ranka were leaning on the platonic?

Also, I think a few months pass between the movies, or I'm wrong? That's what I heard.

about the BD added scene i think it is OK as long it doesnt come out now... and kawamori should stay silent about it.. ... to keep it more cool..

i think it would be awesome...and gives a + selling point, and more reason to buy.. if they add more proper ending scene in the SNT bluray..
