Perhaps I'm misinterpreting the intention behind your words then. Saying he "lacks the balls to be a good man" definitely sounded to me like you were calling him a coward, but perhaps that's not the intent behind it.

As for kids of parents that aren't married... Yes, children are cruel. But these days, divorce and unplanned pregnancies run so rampant that it's normal now. I'm lucky in that my parents have been together since before I was conceived and are still together now. Practically everyone I knew in school wasn't so lucky. I know that kids will screw with other kids that they think have abnormal family lives, but nowadays it isn't so much about unwed parents. I've seen kids' cruelty to adopted children, to children who have had a parent die (honestly, wtf!?), but not to children whose parents never wed or were divorced. It's just so commonplace nowadays that the kids that would do the teasing would have to make fun of themselves, usually, too. It wasn't AS common when I was a kid, but for the time that Clara is, it's extremely common.

Now, of course, there's a difference between what the character knows, and what the parent or even author knows. Japan is a different society, I can't say how normal it is there. And I can't say if Gatoh or Oguro know just how common it is here, and that it wouldn't be a reasonable concern for them. *shrug*

I don't mean to sound like Kurz has no blame here. I've just been defending him because it sounded like you really had it out for him. But I guess I've been misinterpreting. ^^; I'm sure he's had his fair share of mistakes, not explaining himself properly, not knowing when to back off, not doing a lot of things he should do and doing a lot of things he shouldn't. They're both idiots in their own way. I do believe they make a good couple, but they make the screwed up kind of "good." This whole separating and getting back together thing is so very like them. I could've hoped that they would have become better at working things out after having a kid, but obviously that isn't enough for them to chill out.

As for the issues, about her issues needing to be 'their' issues... It only goes so far. And it only works if BOTH of them put effort into it. I doubt that Mao is the type to lay it out for Kurz, or to accept it when he even just tries regardless of her not saying a thing. If anything, I could see her shoving him away the moment he tried to help her work through it, so it's not fair to blame him. I do believe she loves him. Hell, she even admitted it before. Some people just have this kind of volatile love, on and off. Some people can calm down when starting a family, some can't. Obviously one or both of them can't. Doesn't mean they aren't devoted to each other, or even that they don't work. The idea of a 'working' relationship is relative. I wouldn't be able to deal with that kind of a relationship, but it's just how they are. Who else are they going to find that can deal with their idiocy and insecurities?

Things vary. In Russia it has just recently stopped being a matter of mockery, being a child of unmarried parents. Our society can be this traditional sometimes. I don't know about Japan, but we Russians have a lot in common with them when it comes to things like that.

Nah, it was mostly me with my clumsy English and the habit of making interesting things too simlpe =) Sometimes I look back and see that it may look like I really hate Kurtz. But I really don't. There wasn't a Russian FMP fan who was as happy as me when he and Mao finally went through. But I knew it, I knew it from the start that they would be like that. It makes me unhappy, really. I'm the main Mao fan in Russia, so I want her to be happy. But nooo, they have to break up again and again and have a gothic loli for a daughter -_-
Sometimes I become so frustrated I write fanfics like Sosuke x Mao.

Exactly. She wouldn't let him because she doesn't fully trusts him. And he is unable to figure out what to do with the damn woman! Maybe this is my nature saying, but I think he could have done better than this. And my, ehm, is it safe to put it like this, love for Mao makes me upset because of that So it's just my thing, I guess =)

Except that it is getting not funny at all should they keep going that way even years later. IMO, bad call by Gotoh to do that.

Personally FFS, I was expecting Kurz and Mao to just settle it down now that Sousuke and Kaname seem to have made it, so we'd have their children stealing the spotlight. But after reading that thing earlier, I'm not only frustrated... I'm really pissed off.

I know this is a little off topic from the current discussion, but, in the first set of novels, do Sousuke's classmates ever find out he wasn't joking when he introduced himself as Sergeant Sagara?

Kurtz is still going out on missions even if Mao is basically running a training program. Maybe they "feel" safer if there are unattached when he is away so they can't be used against each other...or at least a potential enemy won't see them as a couple. Also removes Kurtz ring from the situation so if needed he can use all his "skills" when needed. When he comes home, they get married again. Or at least that is what I'm thinking. The story might go into better details that I wouldn't know. __________________

(As a sidenote, Another's first print was out and is going to have reprint, breaking the records of Light Novel market upon "fastest" and "largest" reprint) 3.
