That was a very strong start. As full of trolling as the beginning of Gintama'. Even the OP and ED had Kintoki in them. Everything is so... golden.
Poor Gintoki. His whole life has been turned upside down. Or more like, erased. Only Sadaharu and Tama remember who he is. Since I have you here...Could you move the thread to current series?

Oh right I forgot about this and for some reason thought it was all cutesy idols/kids shows this season from Sunrise. This should nicely fill out the requisite good old fashion action comedy gap that Binbogami and Horizon left in their wake.
Seriously though this damn show. Only Gintama would introduce a bishounen version of Gintoki and then proceed to have him in the opening. I can't do much else but be in awe of this show every time it storms back onto the scene. It manages to give less of a damn and take itself less seriously then both the aforementioned Binbogami and Horizon combined. Nothing fazes it, it just keeps going along however it feels like it. It's like Sunrise has Romney confidence when it comes to their approach to comedy. Does it make sense? Not really! Is it funny in the manner in it makes little consistent sense and messes with it's own reality every couple of appearances? Hell yes! Roll with it! They even have the balls to say the things everybody's probably thinking about anime ratings and what sells right now. Especially liked the part about how they should have had Kagura be smaller and do a dance sequence with Elizabeth and the Dog to boost ratings or how being on TV Tokyo and opening with this episode means a ratings bombs and a terrible first episode. I already know they love talking back at their audience regarding negative feedback and the silly trends that people in Japan are all about these days, but they seem to be taking it to a new level of late. It's a borderline straight up middle finger to the core of otakudom, but done in a tongue in cheek way that softens the blow a little I suppose. Most importantly and obviously though it's still Gintama, but it'd be hilarious if doing this actually does lead to some backlash just because they pretend to change the main character. Best show of the new season! *cough*
Daily Lives of High School Boys and Binbougami ga were nice place holders but it's really good to have the real deal Kintama back. As for the first episode it was excellent, Yūichi Nakamura as Kintama was a great choice and Sunrise can't resist those Gundam references can they? The only complain I have is that I kind of wish they ended the episode when Gintoki wrote the episode title.

Looks like Gin got replaced by the golden boy Kin LOL
That Kin sure was a total opposite of Gin. The perfect guy loved by all, unlike Gin ^^" Interesting how everyone forgot all about him. Replaced by a robot, that just hurt.

Someone please explain relationship between Sugita and Nakamura. Certain imageboard make a fuss about this because Blazblue. Unfotunately I don't play this game. Someone speculated Sunrise choose Nakamura for voicing Kintoki because to match this Blazblue related.

They have known each other since their early days as Seiyuu, on top of that they share same hobbies in Gaming (most of the game they played are same with each other). And Nakamura is one of those people who actually always get the references/jokes from various anime/games made by Sugita (for those who don't know, Sugita like doing this almost every time).
If you are curious, you can try watching "Tokyo Encounter". It's a game show hosted by those two, where they play various games (and sometimes random guests like Takahiro Sakurai, Kaji Yuuki, etc). |
