If Slaine is stupid enough to do that then I will probably give up on the writing-department of this show. If they really really want Slaine to go back to Vers to get beaten up, they better provide a very good reason, like maybe he has someone there that is dear to him or someone he should take care of.

For being stupid enough to openly admit he tried to kill the beloved princess and being stupider still to think that the kid he's been abusing relentlessly is just going to sit there and take it 4.) Being even more stupid to think that after being presented with the obvious result of #3 (actually being shot) that he can still tell off the said kid doing the shooting ...actually, on #4--he reminds me of a couple of guys I frgged last night on CoD...same post-death whining. And I know you guys were arguing about it. No, water is NOT the weakness. As Inaho actually said in the episode, the machine had to have certain sections where the barrier was switched off, otherwise it'd just sink into the ground nonstop. So when in contact with a surface, it switches off. Thing is, water is a liquid surface, and I'd wager the AI holding up the field doesn't know that---the water is 'connected' to the ground. So the AI thinks it's still in contact with a solid surface--just one that washes over. You'd probably have gotten a similar effect with mud or a landslide.

However, I do still think that perhaps he can do more for the princess while staying with the Vers, rather than joining the Earth Forces, at least physically. Now that he knows what's going on, he can actually form a plan and purpose to find all who are behind the plot. Also, there's an advantage to being treated like dirt. You're often overlooked and people constantly underestimate what you're capable of. Just as Trillram's dismissal of Slaine cost him, it will cost the other knights as well. I also think that we'll also see Mars itself soon, since we'll need to see the Emperor and of course, he's on Mars.

There's also that meteoric bombardment that Saazbaum is planning. Here's an idea, let's scrutinize this next episode carefully to see if we can't find any lack of Genness. |

After reading through the last few pages of the thread...
I also found it a bit odd how decisively and zealously the Princess went against her own people here, especially since it seems as though she's still unaware of the assassination plot against her on the part of her own people. I can certainly understand and respect her thinking that her people are brutally overreacting to terrans assassinating her, but nonetheless, such an assassination is generally considered an act of war. It should hardly surprise her that the ceasefire is over, and that war is happening. So I'd kind of expect her to take a more diplomatic stance towards her own people. I hope her character and thinking gets fleshed out a bit more in future episodes, because at the moment, it does seem a bit off to me.

Thing with the princess though is that her action here is to stop a massacrer from a rampaging mech. As long as she doesn't command the Earthlings for a fight back I wouldn't find her actions odd. Teammates can still stop a teammate from punching the opposition team just by being a bro.

Slaine going back to VERS wouldn't be stupid to me, unless he went back willingly and told Cruhteo and really thought he'd be believed. Slaine may have to go back to VERS if he can't hook up with the Princess. His only other option would be to wander around alone and that wouldn't get him anywhere. Slaine might actually be able to hide Trillham's body and get away with this for a while. If he tossed him back into the river, Trillham's body would come back up sooner or later but by that point Trillham's death could be blamed on all sorts of things other than Slaine doing it. Plus the VERS people don't seem to think of Slaine as being smart enough to pull off anything like that to begin with, so he'd have bought some time if nothing else.
At this point, I think Slaine's allegiance is to the Princess and no one else. I think he's going to try and get to her if possible but whether he can pull that off or not is going to be the next issue for him. If he can't get to her, then he may have to go back to VERS so that won't be a deal breaker for me, at least, in and of itself. Plus he may get caught and taken back. The main thing he needs to do right now is get rid of the body, or at least cover his roll in the death, if for no other reason than to buy himself some time. BTW, is it possible that gun he got from Trillham is the one the Princess has in the OP? That's something to think about, IMO . |

With regard to "It should be black all the time" complaints
There are moments when it's shown to be all black; namely when it appears to turn on. Every other time it's reactive, as in it goes full power on demand, hence the "black waves" on it. It can't be proven that's the case but it makes perfect sense if you need something to chew on to believe it. It's not useful to absorb light (or anything else that's harmless for that matter) when being a giant hole makes you even more visible, and it makes no sense to waste energy being on all the time either if you can manage to turn it on/off before anything hits; which isn't really that hard given the tech is already absurd as is. I assume when it's not absorbing anything fancy it's just on "low power" mode, so things like light can pass through it. I wouldn't be surprised if it the camera requirement are just a consequence of "camera holes would be an obvious vulnerability" more then anything else. We don't know how special it's skin is.

Yuki, on the other hand is a maybe, but I just can't see her surviving this series. I could be wrong, like I was with Shoko in VVV, but Yuki just seems like she's in a precarious position, plot wise. There really won't be a place for her soon. She's too old to join the kids in fighting, and there's enough female staff to man the ship. So, I feel she'll get extraneous later as the show goes on.

She personally shot off a weapon to take out one of Trillram's cameras. Firing on your own nation's military, especially when you're a very high-ranking member of your nation's government, is a pretty big line to cross, in my view. And she's doing it with a big, open smile on her face!

I'm not saying the Princess should be completely passive here, or just stand by and calmly watch bloodshed happen, but getting in on the firing action herself is, again, crossing a pretty big line, in my view.
