Apparently Kanata's MP didn't just suddenly drop, it has been decreasing little by little. His actual reason for not continuing isn't his lack of magic, because even without it he's still the strongest. His actual reason for not participating in missions is because he's dying and he doesn't want people to grieve him when he's gone.

Spoiler for Kanata's condition:

What's killing him is magic poisoning, according to the poster.

I guess he'd be capable of handling the bug AIDS better if he had no magic to begin with. However the bug stuff affects him in more ways than one as you can see in the LN art. On one side it is slowly killing him, on the other it's transforming him. But that's all history now.

V7 is a short story compilation.

That was in vol 6 at any rate. His condition acts up very violently in V6 and in V7 he's doing fine.

as long as the cast are in their teens - high school level - and has a school setting, there will always be tournaments

story wise; is there no DNA testing??? I mean, in the episode where stalker finally made his move, he fought with Kanata and got injured -with stalker's blood beautifully flying out from his wounds.... and they still don't know who the attacker is . . .
