Sorry to hear about Fukuda's wife passing. I believe she was comatose for a while. You wouldn't wish anyone to go through that kind of thing, for her going through mental decline, and Fukuda having to watch as it happens. That's just awful.
RIP Chiaki Morosawa

It was SEED and Destiny that got me on this forum in the first place. Even after all those years, it's still among the top series I have ever watched and there are so many.
RIP I just hope you're right. So many things were left open for more. |

Alright, so I was informed that Mitsuo Fukuda once talked about the Copernicus City homage to Turn A being deliberate, it's somewhere buried in this thread. But I don't have the strength to look into all of the 601 pages. Does anyone remember this piece of info? Where I can find it?

Anyway, these two posts were the only posts that I could find that came close to what you were asking for.

Happened to be looking into numbers because reasons, and I have some interesting tidbits about the Freedom and Justice's reactors for anyone who might be curious. Their stated outputs are 8826 kW. From there, we can derive a few numbers.
Code:
8826 kW = 8826 kJ/s # convert kW to kJ/s 8826 kJ/s = 8826000 J/s # convert kJ/s to J/s 8826000 J/s / 4184 J/g = 2109.5 g/s # convert J/s into J/g of TNT equivalent, where 1 gram of TNT equivalent = 4186 J 2109.5 g/s = 2.1 kg/s # convert grams of TNT equivalent released per second into kilograms of TNT released per second Moreover, U-235 is the most common type of nuclear fuel. The amount of energy released by U-235 during fission works out to 83.15 TJ/kg, and you need 52 kg of the stuff to attain critical mass. That's 4.3 PJ in total energy if you have just enough of it in the reactor to hit critical mass. By comparison, the Little Boy bomb dropped on Hiroshima had 64 kg of U-235 in it. Nuclear reactors only burn through about 10% of their U-235 before the rods need to be disposed of, so only 5.2 kg of that is going to get used, which means 432.38 TJ over the course of its lifetime before it needs to be refueled. From there you can work out exactly how many hours the nuclear reactor would run based on its 8826 kW output: Code:
432.38 TJ = 432,380 GJ # convert TJ to GJ 432,380 GJ = 432,380,000 MJ # convert GJ to MJ 432,380,000 MJ = 432,380,000,000 kJ # convert MJ to kJ 432,380,000,000 kJ / 8826 kJ/s = 48989348 s # convert kJ to seconds, using reactors' kJ/s output determined above 48,989,348 s / 60 s/m = 816,489 m # convert seconds to minutes 816,489 m / 60 m/h = 13,608 h # convert minutes to hours 13,806 h / 24 h/d = 567 d # convert hours to days
