The game is already out so I tried it. And wow, the premise is even more paper-thin than I'd originally thought. I really wonder how they're going to make an anime out of this, because it's basically... "(ostensibly) pretty boys are actual ancient guns, they're used by the Resistance to fight against the Evil Empire. The Empire has superior guns, but our boys are still better because have ~heart~ that blooms and flower petals fly around while the character song plays." How are they going to make a 12 episode story based on this...
Also, the game itself is fine (mostly - it has a somewhat unusual battle system, but it's just too complicated, with millions of quests to follow and items to collect and use, ain't nobody got time for that) and the character songs are serviceable. But ugh the art is so bland. I'll never understand why so many of these games, some with pretty good budget and PR push and guaranteed anime adaptation and character song releases, etc., settle for absolutely uninspired and boring character art. Aren't the characters supposed to be the main draw here? Last year's Sengoku Night Blood may be a very simple game but at least the character art is gorgeous. But at least Napoleon is cute. (He's Napoleon's former gun who now thinks he's the actual Napoleon. The others don't have the heart to tell him the truth.) And Brown Bess is adorably tsundere, even if he's pretty much a copy-paste of Hetalia's England. |

To add insult to injury (at least on my end) you also have some enemy bosses designed by people like Yukihiro Utako, Kazuki Yone, Kinako, Futaba Hazuki, Oda Suzuka... I understand that these artists are probably expensive but if you're already blowing all that money on game system and seiyuu and character songs then you might as well invest in some striking art, too... (Then again, from what I can see these bosses all wear masks. I suppose they'll come off at one point.)
