As someone who never got around to watching the movie, I'm actually pleased they're making a "superior version" split into seven episodes.

That was a pretty cool start. I'm surprised, shocked even, that the other Hashiras had nothing but good things to say about Rengoku. I figured at least one of them would have said he's too loud and kinda annoying. Of course, compared to Zenitsu he's completely normal.

When I first learned the news that UFO table was to readapt the Infinite Train arc film into the anime's second season, I felt a little robbed from the effort of having experienced the film twice beforehand. As if the TV readaptation was cheapening the value and fun of watching the film before.

Thankfully, this episode to start the second season not only dispelled my anxiety but also elevated my hopes towards new expectations and allowed me to discern a deeper appreciation towards Rengoku and his love for his nation's cuisine; I'm no joking on that last statement.

It was a solid and smart move from UFO table leaving out content from the film in order to repurpose it for the TV readaptation of the Mugen Ressha arc for season two.
Not only it brings something fresh and brand-new into already familiar settings and narratives displayed in the movie, but also delivers those tidbits of character introspection in order to fill in the blanks, that I thought the film had covered.

For starters, now after having watched S2 first episode I got the full account on why, how, when, and where Kyojuro had been eating all those bentos at the film's start.

Delivering those tiny pieces of new information throughout the arc will help a lot the TV adaptation of the Infinite Train to be fun and watchable, and thus preventing it falling into repetitiveness and redundancy.

While I have no doubt this will be the superior adaptation, I can't watch it. I saw the movie quite recently, so I just can't. Feels like a train wreck in slow motion spread over 7 weeks

I didn't see a single new scene in the last episode that was different from the movie.

Rengoku seems kinda cool, asking Tanjiro to be his apprentice, but its kind of unusual that he knows absolutely nothing about Tanjiro's father's kagura dance considering the element, and even Shinobu knew a little bit of something(which she got from Rengoku himself). He might be hiding something, since he's still seems a bit skeptical about Nezuko, but hopefully after this arc he'll trust him enough to reveal what he knows.

I've got the impression that he was lying and he actually knows something but he doesn't want to tell. I might be wrong though.

Anyway is this really the movie that had such a huge success? So far it doesn't really seem that the animation quality is better than that of the regular series. And the episode itself was even less interesting than the prologue we've seen on episode 1. Maybe it will get better.

That probably won't change, I mean why shouldn't it to begin with. The quality was top notch to start with, so there isn't any reason or possibilty to upgrade it further. People always like to mention movie quality compared to a series, but that isn't working here. If one looks at the results then I would say Ufotable didin't animate the whole arc again. Instead they used everything from the movie and sliced it up. Since like mentioned before, there hasn't been anything added yet, so I not sure if the skit in the end is counted towards the 70 new cuts.

If it helps, I felt like the first 20 minutes of the movie (which I assume this episode covered) were extremely weak outside of the one 13 second or so flashy scene of Rengoku showing off. It picks up after that.

I recently watched the two episodes and I largely agree with the sentiment of this thread. This mini-season largely caters to the non-movie watchers and is it pretty much a repeat of the movie. There was nothing I learned from episode 2 although the opener was decent seeing as that was original.

I would agree with GDB that things do pick up as the movie did start rather slowly. I will say the animation is the same level of the movie so don't go expecting much higher production values in subsequent episodes.

Why not? It's the same animation that studio that did the Fate movies, and those have noticeably better quality than both the Fate series they did and the Kimetsu no Yaiba series they did. So far what I'm seeing is not on par with the awesome stuff that Ufotable did on previous movies. Perhaps it will get better later.

Some will argue that the first season was already movie quality, but as you said, we know Ufotable is capable of doing even better than this. This is on the same level as the TV series.

And although it gave me the opportunity/motivation to finally watch it, this retelling of the movie is just such a scam. They already made a shit ton of money with that movie, with both theaters entrances and BD sales. Yet, they're totally going to sell new BDs advertising this as "the definitive Mugen Train arc edition". I wish they'd flop, but I know they won't.

I do second everyones' thoughts on the TV adaptation for the Infinity Train arc.

My beef is not whether UFO Table is adding new content to what they already released in the film. Rather I'm quite intrigued if UFO Table left content out of the film due to either budget or time constraints, but reincorporated it into the TV adaptation; that's what I would be looking forward to.

As far as the second episode went, I only noticed a couple of camera shots edited or added in order to adjust the pacing, but that's it. Furthermore, to me the editing for the TV adaptation feels weird having to take breaks from the end of the previous episode to the start of next one due that the movie delivers the whole arc in motion from beginning to end without interruptions.

Still, both the OP and ED are fitting, and the only stuff standing out from the rest of the current film adaptation, in additon to this season's opener episode.

Nothing really new in ep 5, just 2 small scenes added. Only added to about 3 secs of new footage(a small cut added with Nezuko fighting[literally like 2 secs] and a cut in to what the others were doing when Tanjiro and Inosuke reached the head car). I mean, I had no expectations, but if it was only was going to be this, they might as well not have mentioned it =0v.

Great choreography as usual. Really liked how Tanjiro and Inosuke fought together. Nezuko's always a treat to watch, as is Zenitsu(when in cool sleep mode).

Thought it was kinda stupid for Tanjiro to get stabbed though; could have easily attacked the stabber with his sheath or hilt, if he had enough time to brace himself in front of Inosuke. Even moreso since the stabber was a normal human. If he had pushed Inosuke out of the way and got stabbed, that would have made at least a little more sense, but oh well, guess they gotta have that dramatic finish.

Only brand-new shots added were of Zenitsu and Inosuke falling into the depths of their respective dreams.

Aside from that, all the rest of the content happened same as in the film, though I'll give UFO table credit for preserving the pacing at how Tanjiro's dream unfolded from when reuniting with his lost family following his realization at being trapped from within the dream, and thus culminating with his "suicide".

It would have made for a disturbing cliffhanger ending this episode with the last shot of the blood spilt onto the snowscape had not been that I watched first the film two times 7-8 months ago.

Still, Tanjiro weighing down on him that he lost his family along with Rengoku attempting to comfort his kid brother were the most emotionally heavy climaxes that result for me to tough to handle.
