Also, I really don't see any faction other than maybe K-ON themselves voting against Mio, so I'll assume that the voters who voted for Itsuki really do find her more moe. edit: I just realized that another reason for Itsuki's high vote count (relatively) could be because of Amu's combo.

Magical girl mojo you mean? Maybe. Kana Minami at least has some credible numbers from the previous year even though it was a fairly obvious assassination. (suddenly 500s for two characters when previous matches hadn't been anywhere near that high up to that point). Kana did try to take on Kyou the previous year when Haruka and Chiaki attempted to hold high level characters as well.
The K-On fans will probably not be lazy this time around and allow for a late rush to crush Mio again. Unlesss of course they intend to avoid a potential split vote in Round 3 with Azusa. (Still don't like the idea of the group finals being three ways. I didn't like it from the start even before the groups were populated. Probably due to those two groups from last year's G Block that managed to be three way fights for Round 3 that went really wonky dispite the group winner going to the SemiFinals).

If Azusa beats Poplar in R2, Azu and Mio may suffer a split vote and both succumb to Mikoto; if Poplar beats Azusa, Mio will have a much better chance at landing a spot in the top 16, but Azu will be out. Sticky situation for K-ON fans.

If Azusa wins her second round, it's possible for K-ON to anti-vote Mio out. However, at that point Railgun would be doing everything they can to make sure that Mio advances, and it's a move guaranteed to generate many backlash from Mio fans. However, even if Azusa loses her second round, it's still not that beneficial for K-ON because Mikoto's still the favourite and Momo/Poplar aren't exactly pushovers either. The only way I see K-ON winning Group G requires them to not only take care of the split vote problem, but also take down Mikoto before round 3.
