Kill la Kill continues to show that it isn't going the completely predictable route. What seemed like a monster of the week formula is turned on its head with the short battle against Inumuta. Something tells me Jakuzure is going to be my favorite. Some nice facial expressions and a show stealing performance by Shintani. And it looks like Tsumugu is coming back soon. And a new character too. Another member of Nudist Beach?

I'm really liking the plot far more than the fights these weeks. It was obvious that Ryuko would win the first fights since she is the only protagonist. The villains turned out to be really fun to watch. I wonder if they will turn out to be supporting in the second half to get more variety.

Too good, eery week, even if the animation continues to suffer.
This show really emphasizes the strengths of effective art direction... any other show that took this many shortcuts would be nowhere near as good-looking. Quote:
Also quite deliberate. It's not a monster-of-the-week formula though! I keep saying this, but those shows are designed around being 50 episodes long, heavily reliant on stock footage, and having lots and lots of unimportant mook enemies. Just having a fight every week doesn't necessarily mean that it's following the monster-of-the-week formula... it's more like one of those shows with all the unimportant fights removed. |

With the flashbacks of the elite 4, their situation is similar to what Satsuki is doing to Ryuuko right now.
I think instead of Satsuki joining forces with Ryuuko, its Ryuuko that will join Satsuki and go against whatever Satsuki seems to be building a force against.

Can I just say that I have a nasty feeling that Mako is gonna bite it soon?
Ryuuko pretty much said that she is what calms her nerves down and keeps her emotions in check. So imagine what would happen if she was taken out? Especially as it becomes harder for Mako to get through with more and more council members joining her seat. I just have a sinking feeling that, like Kamina, Mako will have to die in order for Ryuuko to grow as a character. |

So then, this episode was a real treat. I came in expecting a formulaic battle arc, and this episode completly wripped it to shreds. What with it's butt typing, and it's dramatic speeches by tiny children, and it's incredible magical girl transformation sequence, and it's hilarious spectator stands insanity...
I mean honestly I could keep going. Here's my weekly review, where I tried to make some logical sense of the whole thing. Do you know how hard that was? I've never had so much difficulty trying to discern something intellectual to say about Kill La Kill. WHY ARE YOU SO DUMB BUT SO AMAZING XD

Eh, the Inumuta fight was pretty anticlimatic for what it was supposed to be as was his brief backstory. I guess if subverting expectations here was the intent then tthat production staff succeeded, I just don't think I cared for it much.
Nonon on the otherhand certainly didn't disappoint! I was thoroughly entertained here. Fun episode! Quote:
