I'm just saying that it seems(keyword) like most of the strong ninjas don't have any parents(meaning deceased). I base this on the fact that most of the above average to weaker genins we know have parents who are confirmed to be alive e.g Ino, Sakura, Chouji, Shino, Hinata, and so on.
If there was another friendly competition between genins. I'd say the top 5 winners would be Naruto, Gaara, Sasuke, Neji, & Shikamaru of whom the top 4 are parentless or have yet to reveal any. Yea I'd have to admit having to cover the background of every gennin for Kishimoto is a little too much but it shouldn't be that hard for him to indicate in some way without much effort who has living parents like what he/animation team did with Sakura. We hear Sakura talk to her mother but we actually haven't seen her, something as simple as that puts all doubts aside. |

I'm guessing most of the adult ninjas don't have parents because ninjas in general don't have very long life expectancy... I mean, the only ninjas we see that are even over thirty are Tsunade, Jiraiya and Sarutobi; Orochimaru doesn't really count because he did his body switch technique a few times so he's more like 15 now. But these are all legendary ninjas! I find it a bit scary that in order to have any chance of surviving past the age of 30 you have to be a legendary ninja.
The one that really gets to me is Rock Lee, this guy is shown alone in most of his childhood flashbacks, we never get any hint of him having parents, and we never see him with his parents, not even when Tsunade is at the hospital seeing if she can cure him. Don't you think it's weird that his parents never come to visit him? Or that the only person in the room when Tsunade is looking at Lee is Gai?? If he has parents, why aren't they supporting him? Heck I'm guessing any mother would pretty much move into the hospital if that's where her son is, where the heck are those selfish bastards? |

Hah at first people said: No Asuma and the 3rd arent related as in father and son.
It turns out that he IS his son...and now we say the same about Konohamaru. Honestly it wouldnt suprise me at all. I am pretty sure that his name is also "Sarutobi" Konohamaru.

Exactly...his name is unknown just like:
"Sarutobi" || "?" (Hokage) "Sarutobi" || "Asuma" (Jounin) "?" || "Konohamaru" (Academy/Student) "?" || "?" (Yondaime Hokage) "Uzumaki" || "Naruto" (genin) "?" || Jiraiya / Tsunade / Orochimaru (their clan name is also unknown)

I think the writers use the lack of or death of a parent to be just one factor in shaping a character. In characters like sasuke it's a big deal because his whole plot development is to kill his brother who killed his parents. Characters like Naruto never seemed to know their parents and that makes him feel incomplete or like he as something to make up for resulting in his hard work and never say die attitude.
