This would be for Girls und Panzer Vol. 1's second release, and it indicates yet more supply shortages. The third release was available for order 3 days ago, and it's already sold out on Amazon. I can't recall any other show suffering from a shortage quite like this. The original print run was about 14,000 units. It would be safe to assume that Actas' realistic expectations were 1/3 of the print run, 2/3 would have been very optimistic. Nobody expects to sell out, and Girls und Panzer is well beyond that already. The main question is going to be whether subsequent volumes will be large enough to satisfy demand. Girls und Panzer is already the best selling show from Fall 2012. The early episodes were the weakest ones, so the later ones will probably also sell very well.

I'll say again what I've said before... when I first heard about it, it had what I considered a decent production team, but the premise seemed kinda ridiculous, so I went in with fairly low expectations.
And I was quite pleasantly surprised. It helps that I like things that are painted olive drab or navy gray... |

A concept just weird enough to get people interested in seeing what the hell the show's about.
Animation quality that's pretty damned good for what by all accounts should probably be a very low budget affair. Decent enough plot (even if clearly rushed since no one in their right mind would bank on this show to be the success it was). And above all: outstanding directing and some pretty damned nice sound work (from soundtrack to directing without forgetting voice work). At least that's my take on it. There aren't enough compliments to give to the execution for this show and it's just a shame that it'll probably never get anyone outside the regular anime following to even bat an eyelid at it. It's a very good example of how good execution can turn what looks like a mediocre concept on paper into a substantial hit.

And, with the exception of shells piercing the armor of the tanks, the tanks themselves act like tanks. The way they slam, pitch, thud and bounce around, completely lacking a smooth ride. And doing cool stuff I could only dream about, like getting away with firing off a main gun blank round at 0500 in the middle of a suburb!
The gilrs reaction the first time the fire their main cannon took me back to a similar experience of my own. *BOOM* Oh YEAH, baby! |

GuP's "no panty shot" rule was the best executive decision they made, imo. Actually made people take it seriously. |

No I mean it. GuP's secrete formula is: 1 part cute girls doing cute things. 2 parts awesome realistic military action. Mix vigorously with an excellent screen writer+director pairing who let the action drive both characterization and exposition Serve with absolutely no panties. Garnish with a notable lack of tsundere, lolis, or other hackneyed character types. If only more shows followed this formula...

Actas is very brave to picked the idea and turned it to anime. Considering that:
- Making an original anime is very risky - The plot idea is weird and can be a hit or miss - People need to watch it to become interest in it and the anime take a while (~ep4) to show what it's really about.
