I guess this is as good a place as any to discuss something I noticed about the way the events of this episode were handled in the anime vs in the VN. In the anime the impression I got was that although she wanted to have a home birth Nagisa had decided that due to the danger to her life during delivery she was going to have the baby in the hospital, but due to the fact that she went into labor earlier than expected and that it was snowing heavily at the time she was unable to get to the Hospital and therefore had to have the home birth due to necessity rather than her desires. However, in the VN what seemed to happen was that Nagisa insisted on the home birth and despite conditions being relatively normal during her delivery she had the home birth and as a result did not make it through the delivery.
Now what I see in the anime is that Nagisa had her desires but she was willing to make a mature decision about what is best for her and her baby. Obviously she would never agree to an abortion because of how much she values the lives and happiness of others, but when the time came to make a practical decision she was capable of it. In the VN on the other hand I felt like her stubbornness about the home birth ended up costing her her life and I wasn't really happy with that turn of events. Now it's possible that I'm misinterpreting the events in the VN since I've only been through that once and by the end of the birth chapter I was thinking "let's get on with this, get to the interesting part of the story." despite the fact that I tend to be fairly patient with mundane plot lines as long as I find the characters involved interesting. But if I'm not missing anything then I find that characterization of Nagisa in the VN somewhat disappointing.

NOOOOOO! Nagisa!, wow, that's the second time this week I wrote something similar to that, (See the current episode thread of Naruto Shippuden for further details) It was great to see most of the gang back together, no Tomoyo though during New Years, Kotomi looked good in that black and red Kimono. Nagisa all bundled up in winter clothes was cute, and hilarious.
The part with Nagisa did make me sad, though I kind of anticipated it as well. What made even sadder was Tomoya wishing he's never met Nagisa. Now I understand why this thread is so big, and why it's still so active. As far as the ending song goes, I tend to skip it anyway, but I will say, I guess having an upbeat song for an ending, kind of lifts you out of the sadness of the episode itself.

edit: I like typing numbers and making pretty colors with graphs, so here's a comparison graph with Air and Kanon as well. Note, that on this ridiclously arbitary scale that I made up just now, higher than 10 is probaly BAW material; the majority of series would never pass it, meaning they would just be stuck on the bottom of the graph. Also, I don't remember exactly what happened in each episode, though chances if I didn't it probably didn't move me enough. Spoiler:
All I can say is, damn you Key! This might as well be adjusted to my heart rate.

Well I wasn't going to do it but after seeing Archon Wing's graph it seemed like a fun exercise so I decided to try it out.
Now as for my scale, it goes from 1: I FEEL NOTHING to 10: I CAN'T STOP CRYING BUCKETS OF TEARS (lol DDR). Anything 8 or above is crying. I consider crying due to fiction to have 3 tiers (tears?). A score of 8 = Tier 1 which is your eyes are wet. A score of 9 =Tier 2 which is there are tears on your face. A score of 10 = Tier 3 which is you're actively sobbing. I find it fairly hard to get me to tier 3, especially because I'm trying to read subs so breaking down and crying would force me to stop reading the subs. So far only two episodes have reduced me to tier 3 crying; one of course is ep18 of after story, the other is episode 10 of ef-melodies. (by the way, if you liked Clannad and haven't watched ef then get on that) Spoiler for THE GRAPH:

Spoiler for Air vs Kanon and Clannad:
Spoiler for episode count:
Also, thanks to the power of cut and paste, here's one where Clannad and AS are seperated; as Dex-Kun may say, they are truly different shows. ^^ I think this particular graph will point out more similarities between the shows. In general, there's usually something very strong at the mid point. Spoiler:
Also, there's a negative value for cases where the episode manages to reduce my empathy or respect for the characters, thus nulling any emotional value it could have had. If Haruhi was on there, there would be a long stretch of such.
