After he got an injury while shielding Yukino from a thrown ball or something she takes him to the nursery and gives him first aid, telling him her path in the process. I think it was liberal arts. Im pretty excited for this part.

After reading, if i was part of this i wouldve picked to major in the sciences and not liberal arts.

Is she talking about the disparity in his marks, as in very high for liberal arts but absolutely horrible for sciences or something along those lines, or the attention he gets from members of the staff - expectations? the content following that line leads me to lean towards the latter, but I'm not very sure. Confirmation, anyone?

Yea she was talking about how Yukino and Hayama are popular among the teachers due to their high grades and potential. However even though Hikki has high grades like them the attention the teachers give him compared to the others is extremely low which she finds odd.

It's the latter but the former is the cause. Hikki noted how his lopsided grades made his own choice easier compared to Hayama who excels in both. It's apparent enough when he mistakes herpes for hernia and has his math called out by Rumi of all people.

I think yukino is taking science coz she said it a while back then on volume 2, she aspired to enter a science faculty at a public nation-wide university while hachiman taking liberal arts at a private university btw Merry Christmas Everyone!

But that was the Yukino who was chasing after Haruno (aka, "then"). Wasn't Haruno's first choice the science faculty of a certain college, but was prevented from taking it by YukiMom? (I can't recall the exact names of the departments and stuff )

As volume 5 pointed out, Yukinon obviously has two paths to follow, one is "chasing after her sister" by picking sciences; and the other is to follow her own calling (Hikki clearly pointed out that such a book loving person will be weird in anything but Liberal Arts). It's also softly implied that by choosing her own calling Yukinon will also "choose the club" (the 2 of them are going for arts, right?); in other words being Haruno's copy-cat will render Yukino "all alone", while being herself will keep people that she cares about close by.....

So, Watari isn't necessarily being subtle at this; the choice is meaningful and that's why it's tied up to some "suspense".
