Actually, I don't mind it at all. The previous two Doctors were whirlwinds that sucked everyone else into their pace and blasted off to wherever. Fun, but that's not this Doctor. I don't mind the current dynamic between this Doctor and Clara. For now, it's okay to be different.

Listen and Mummy were good episodes (well, Mummy would've been great if it hadn't had that crap about Clara leaving but not really leaving because she's an addict), but Kill the Moon was god awful. If this had been my first season, it'd have caused me to drop the series so fast. By comparison, the episode that made me a fan of the series was Series 5's Vincent Van Gogh episode.

But in the end, I felt that outside of short 1-2 minute blips of Missy in various episodes, none of the others contribute to the greater picture. It's fine to have some that don't, but when pretty much nothing does...

I'm not sure if the writing itself was weak or not. Honestly, it felt like it'd have been absolutely perfect... if the companion was anyone but Clara. It felt like everything she did would have been better if it had been a new companion who didn't have top 1% computer/hacker skills, intimate knowledge of the Doctor's past faces/lives/adventures, etc.

I'd rather have the companion know the Doctor or be roughly equal to him, like Romama. Then they can focus the story not the question of the audiance.

Maisie's character definitely has a past with the Doctor.

That bi...awful person. Jenna Coleman Leaving Doctor Who. Couldn't she have just died at the end of the Christmas episode?

Nothing wrong with her as a person, just as a character. Thankfully she'll be leaving, but yeah she really should have left in the Christmas episode.

I see nothing strange about it. A lot of Doctor Who Companions leave the show when they feel it's time to move on. Best of luck with her.

Only 5 minutes in and this episode already feels better than 70% of last season.

*edit*

OOD SIGHTING! And hey, that galactic police rhino force thing with the old woman. The Tennant is strong in this episode.

Pretty happy they're doing this Breakfast with Baker thing. Watching Genesis of the Daleks right now and it's obvious they pulled a LOT from it for this season's first two-parter.

So much for that "victory lap"...

The weird part is how she said they planned this a year and a half ago. So basically, around when Time of the Doctor was first aired. Yet they still had such a horribly directed Christmas Special this year that looks as if it had a last minute change to keep her in the story...

Okay, Missy is bonkers, but a wonderful kind of bonkers.

I could almost see a spin of Missy and Clara going around due to just how unpredictable Missy can be, and how adaptable Clara can be.

The rules? What rules? Are you telling the Doctor the rules again?

I'm not sure what to think about this two-parter. On one hand, I do like the overall large scale idea of the project (it's not often a season-finale level production becomes a seasons first episodes), and there were some absolutely fun moments throughout, but the plot wonkiness just messes with the dramatic moments too much to really elevate the affair beyond being merely good. Specifically, of course, I'm talking about the Aizen-level subterfuge that really serves no specific purpose and ultimately wrecks the dramatic moments Davros and the Doctor shared throughout these episodes. And let me tell you, those moments were superb (especially Capaldi's appeal to compassion, which just might be his best work as the Doctor thus far).

That being said, pretty much everything with Missy and Clara was great. Their perversion (or maybe it is simply parody) of the companion relationship was hilarious, and the info they reveal about the Daleks was a lot of fun (even if very plot convenient).

I'm in love with Missy. As much as I like Simm as the Master, Michelle Gomez has brought such a twist on her. I'm just loving it.
